No, you should post a notice that the ring was found and then require respondents to give a detailed description of the ring. If no one claims it or is able to describe it in a reasonable period of time, it is yours. I think the usual waiting period is like 60 days. A note at the bar and perhaps a note in the local classifieds, if it appears to be valuable, should ease your conscience and make reclamation a reality for the owner. Just asking the question indicates that you are an honest person. Kudos.

What type of ring did you find? Wedding ring? Maybe it was because they signed their divorce papers and it signified the marriage was over. Engagement ring? Maybe she just really had way to much to drink and decided the bartender looked a lot better then what she had to look forward too! Those are possiblities! Funny as the answers might be, if I were you I would leave it with the manager of the place and give him my name and number, if it was an engagement ring and the giver came to find the ring after the receiver woke up from a booze induced coma that the bartender she has been sleeping with gave her, maybe you would find him interesting and go on a date! Stranger things have happened!

Someone did not want it... pure and simple. sure they could have pawned it.. but maybe there was just a need to break clean.. leave it for the next person.. maybe they would have a far happier experience.
Me, its tainted.. need to melt it down and rework it or sell it at a pawn dealer...its yours...
You notify the Police department. Like some do with cash they find. After a specific period of time if no one claims it, its yours by finders keepers rules...
if it had fallen off (accidental) it most certainly would not have landed in an ash tray...

I would put an ad in the paper that says, "Found: Ring. Call to identify." Then make sure that whoever claims it can describe it IN DETAIL and tell you where they lost it. I know that if I had lost my ring, I would want the opportunity to get it back. Karma.

let me see... a couple was smoking, the guy proposed to a girl, she was shocked and ran off, he dropped it in the ashtray by mistake and ran after her.........i tink you should just keep it. To find the owner would be like searching for a needle in the haystack.

It could have be piching her finger, or his finger. Thats if it looks like a guy ring. Turn it in, after so many days and noone claims it. Then by law it's your to have.

What type of ring?
If it's a wedding ring, I'd return it to the person's spouse (if you have any way of figuring it out). Otherwise I'd return it to the owner.

there's not really any point in turning it in, i mean a lot of people go to bars and you wouldn't find out who's it is. So I say keep it.
