I read the story you linked it to. I don't think that child should be held responsable. He was only 4 years old and is repeating something that he has seen. I think everyone should look at the parents and see where that little boy learned to flip off a crowd of people. I have 3 kids and believe me, if they see or hear something new and they think it is neat or funny--they will repeat it--even if they have no clue what it means. So no, that 4-year-old did not even know he was holding up his middle finger and that it meant a bad word--since he didn't, he shouldn't be held responsable. If a child knows what they are doing is bad and still do it--then they are old enough to be held responsible.

If you watched the News report on this the little 4 year old thought he was doing I am #1. His mom told him not with that finger, at the time he did it. She didn't make a scene about him using it, and that is how you handle a situation like that, she discreetly told him not like that you don't. Put your hand down and he did.

I think some of the towns people need to get over this story. A new Apricot King has been crowned in his spot, get over it!

The child doesn't realize what he did, that is what is important here. He thought he was doing "I am #1!" So, his actions weren't vicious or mean spirited and his parents handled the action. This story is so done you can stick it with a fork!

No they should not. The parents are the ones that should be held responsible. In the first 5 years of a child's life is the most crucial in learning and apparently the parent/s had taught him no respect.

How very sad that in America they force kids that young to lineup likecattle and be told they aren't pretty or handsome enough. The parents should be punished, and the kids should be removed fron those homes, its the worst kind of abuse!

Yes. We start teaching them from the time they can walk and talk that for every action is a reaction. And they learn it on their own as well. When a child starts to learn to walk, with a little help, they learn how to balance themselves and take steps. They know they have to take steps to move. (action - reaction).

Yes, because parents are always telling their kids not to do something. Knowing the concequenses, they advise their children to do otherwise. But kids always think that their parents don't know anything so they go and do it anyway, learning the hard way.

Kids don't make stupid decisions. They're too little. Leave them alone....what a broad question.

They need to learn that bad decisions have consequences. But, the way you word your question sounds like you are over their shoulder, ready to pounce. Chill.
