should I consult regarding weight loss programs? I'm 5ft and 110 lbs. I used to be 97-98lbs like 2years ago but for some reason I started gaining weight when I became 20yrs old. I'm working out regularly and my muscles seem to get more buff but I want to see an obvious result, ergo, I want to see my digits go down. Anyone has an advice? I'm planning to take Orlistat but I'm not sure if it would be right so I want to consult to the right type of doctor. Thanks.

Well, to answer Pat D's question regarding my eating habits, most days I only eat brunch. A complete meal though. Then I'd have a banana for dinner. I don't really feel fat, I just want to be as slim as I was 2years ago. Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate it.

You should see your Family Doctor for a work-up for anorexia. At 5 feet tall 110 pounds is just fine. Trying to get back to 98lbs would be foolish and unhealthy. The fact that you are concerned about your weight makes me concerned for your health. 98 pounds is an unhealthy weight for just about anyone and an adult does not look better at that weight - they just look sickly. I hope you take this in the right way and I hope you do get help if you have an eating disorder or some other body image problem that needs correction. Good luck.

Start with a regular internist or general practitioner. They can give you an idea if your weight and BMI (body mass index) is good for your height and frame. (Are you small boned? Medium? Big boned? That makes a difference.)
Also - know this- lean muscle mass weighs more than fat. So, if your muscles are "buff", then your "digits" may not go down. Better to be solid muscle and have higher numbers on the scale than to have a lower number on the scale and have more body fat.

Egad!!! Where to start.....
1) 5ft and 110lbs is not bad at all
2) 5ft and 97-98lbs is anorexic
3) you're working out and you've gained 12lbs - that's MUSCLE!!! (you yourself even note that you are "buff")
4) turning 20 has nothing to do with it
5) "want to see my digits go down" - you have an unhealthy fixation on "how far the needle spins around the dial", you're not fat, see 3) above
6) Orlistat will give you EXTREMELY RUNNY, FIENDISHLY SMELLY red poo, you will spend all your waking moments sitting on the can

I doubt youll find a doctor that will help you with weight loss at that weight! Its called getting older, your body changes and you gain a little. Best thing to do is exercise more and be happy with how you feel in clothes rather then what the scale says. You probably look better now then at 97 pounds. Now if you want to be healthier a nutrionist can help you with eating the right foods and making better choices...GL!

Muscle weighs more than fat, so it makes sense that you're not losing weight right away - you may even gain some weight, but that's okay. your body fat percentage will go down, though, and that's the big thing. Also, as you get more toned, just having more muscle will increase your metabolism, so in your day to day activities you will burn more calories.
if you still want to make it go faster, I would talk to a nutrionist and/or a personal trainer.

In most states, any licensed physician can help a patient with weight loss, but a board-certified specialist in internal medicine is your best bet.
But, in all honesty, no good doctor will help you lose weight. Your weight is not excessive, and anyone who gives you pills should have his or her medical license yanked.
You say you're working out -- but you say nothing about your eating! You don't say you are eating wisely and cutting empty calories. You wanna lose weight, ya gotta bring in less fuel than you are burning.
In my humble opinion, what you need is more self esteem. Consider seeing a counselor or therapist, not a weight-loss doctor.

Wait there dear...... 5 foot and 110? I am 5' 5'' and at 130 look great. You don't need to lose weight. You do and you will soon be in pain when you try to set at your pc. Do not ruin your health by losing anymore weight. A friend of mines son, about your age lost til sitting at his pc was painfull. He had no padding of fat for his tush... and that meant that his tail bone was right against the metal seat he sat in. But it went further than that. He was even in pain on cushioned chairs and his bed rubbed against his ribs and every other bone in his body. He now has a bit of a tummy and is glad of it. It is his guage to keep him from losing back to being in pain again. It is one inch he is glad to pinch now.Hold on my daughter has something to say to you.
Hi there, My docter told me that it was normal for me to be a little a liitle over weight, because at 18 you stop growing taller but not else where. I am 5'9 and 180 pounds; I should be 140 to 160 pounds, but I will keep growing else where for a while. So for now I am letting my body stay at 180 till it is ready for me to stop growing. You try to stop your body from doing that, you could wind up regreting it with health problems with it. It's ok to slow down on whatever your eating but not too much. You shouldn't make your body do anything that will hurt it.. My brother can't even lose weight now. He tried diet pills, but now they don't help, they make him gain weight instead. He is almost 500 pounds now and, has highblood and may have diabetes; that's his results from making himself try to lose weight. So if you do that, you really need to be careful; he asked a docter and look what happened to him.
She isn't kidding....My son is close to if not over 500 lbs; all because he tried to be extra slim when he was your age. If you think you are fat now and hate it, how do you think you will feel at 500 pounds???

110 lbs is NOTHING to worry about girl! Anyway, your building muscle and that is probably what's adding the weight...and the more muscle you have the more calories you burn so I'm sure you're not too fat!

If you want to see your digits go down, take the hard core excercise out of the equation. You gotta do low impact high burning excercises. Crunches (standing or sitting) are great, and if you like to dance, take up aerobics. Take care, and remember that it's not your size that matters... It's the size of your heart!
