There is no single answer to your question. It depends on where in California you live, how many dependents you have, and your lifestyle.

In general, near the coastal cities it costs an arm and a leg as someone said. In the rural areas it typically costs slightly more than in rural areas of other states.

I've lived in the SF Bay Area but now live out in the boonies.

I think they charge by the minute. Like, $5? But you can get a discount rate where you only have to pay $35 per half-hour.
