First of all, the data in the article refer only to felons overall, and have no breakdown by felony. It is entirely possible that most of the ex-cons voting were imprisoned for non-violent crime.

Having said that, it is most likely that there is no causal relationship. That is, that more ex-cons vote Democratic because most of them are poor and many or most of them are racial minorities -- the poor and minorities tend to vote Democratic because they believe that the Democratic party better represents their interests.

However, it is also possible that they vote Democratic because of their prison experience. That is, they might see the Republicans as simply advocating that criminals be imprisoned for a term and then released; having gone through such a sentence themselves, they might believe that such an approach didn't help them or society, and that therefore they should support candidates who favor a different approach to reducing crime.

It's not impossible that a serious study of the situation has already been done. Such a study would involve surveys of ex-cons to see how and why they voted. Then we would have answers instead of just guesses.

I advise that the better decrease for contributions be finished away with, and that the optimal payouts in retirement nonetheless stay as they are, adjusted for inflation. Social safe practices isn't a "provide away" application yet one which all of us make a contribution to love a reductions plan, and should be secure adverse to different makes use of by utilizing the authorities. Do you agree or disagree and why? if you're so anxious about it then why no longer; first positioned it back into the own sector and make to were no can take out money from it for his or her own interest, second pay back each and every penny you've borrowed from both Social safe practices and Medicare, third take the unlawful immigrants off of it and those who come over right here yet under no circumstances paid a penny to it, and finally have it an same for each body; in different words authorities officials are to participate in it and in the adventure that they prefer something extra they do it on their own without the tax payers funding it?yet, the commercial stytem feeding the imbalances had under no circumstances been somewhat replaced. They, a set of scholars, reported that each and absolutely everyone costs of interest will be 3% or a lot less for each body to change into wealthy if wanted (which could be real also to taces). the superb economic difficulty will be, they pronounced, even as there have been no costs of interest. Why no longer do this answer? the wealthy would nonetheless be wealthy. My question is: even as soial safe practices turns right into a project linked to federal costs, why no longer artwork with a balanced or benefit budget and spend no better than is provided in, as any relations has to attempt for? Why no longer ban all loobying presents as a way to get regulations that serve the country? God bless us of a.

Not all criminal felons can vote!!! It depends on if they are no longer incarcerated and if the twon will let them vote....they have to ask first. I think they vote democratic because most dems are supportive of lessor setencing prosecutions than republicans. Most repubs want to lock up and throw away the key.

Because liberals like to let them go free. Conservatives think that felons should be kept in prison where they can't harm the general public.

Wow, its a scary thought to think that some of the posters above are voters. Are we really this dumbed-down?

There are many different theories about this topic. Some of them are quite good, actually. Many times it goes back to the timeless debate on crime and punishment.
