When I feel like doing something different wth my hair and I don't want it perminent, I usually get a prism done by my hair dresser. It's a temporary dye and it looks great, and it doesn't leave your hai discolored or dead once it washes out. It usually lasts up to 2 months.

It all depends on:
1. how long the dye says it will take to rinse out, (listed on the back of the box)
2. the color of the temp. dye being used and
3. the original color of your hair.
I'm blond and used a temp red dye. I was red and washed-out red for 6 months. What I learned (from my stylist) was:
1. if your hair is blond or already processed-frosted, permed, waved etc.- the color will adhere to the hair and be darker and more permanent than it should
2. if using red or shades with high pigment ratio-chestnut, black, etc-it will take longer to rinse out
3. always start out lighter than you think you might like
If it isn't enough color, then go darker.
4. When in doubt, call the help number on the side of the box or find it on the net.

The only short term temporariy dyes I have used were the Color Pulse hair color dyes. They last for about a week or so, but they fade really easily and take out a lot of the vibrance of your hair once they are washed out.
If you want weird colors you can use Kool Ade, or for more natural colors you can use different teas and coffees. (I'm not exactly sure how you apply either of these techniques though)

It works the same as any other dye; however, I have found that *no* dye washes out completely and your hair will be at least slightly discolored (more or less depending on your hair color and the color you dyed it with).

I use Natural Instincts,it washes out after about a month though. I like it and it works good though. My hair is more manageable after I use it.

They do work well and it washes out after atleast 3 months.

Yes. Some peoples hair will hold color less or longer than others. But on a average they last like they say it will.
