My friend started a new job almost a month ago (He is 18 and works for a company that basically sells items to other companies and he is a team leader there so he does a lot) and it's a high-stress job for him. He's ALWAYS tired. Like, he'll sleep for 8 hours and he'll wake up feeling like he never went to sleep at all. Or sometimes he can't sleep that long so he sleeps about 5 hours and he's still tired. This can't be good. This morning I briefly mentioned that I think he should see a doctor but he had to go because he had to go to work so we didn't have time to really talk about it. I'm just worried that something's going on. Should he see a doctor? Have you experienced this or has a friend of yours experienced this and what was the problem (If any)? Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it.

Just so you know, he doesn't drink or smoke, so that won't have anything to do with it.

sounds to me like this is more than your friend? if you are concerned than be persistant and talk to him but it is a real change to get your first real fulltime job and have to join the daily grind. If he hates the job he can alway quit or perhaps he will get used to it in a year or so

Is the tiredness new with the job or has it been going on longer? If this is a new symptom it could be stress related. If the tiredness has been an issue before the job has started, or if he was just sleeping more before then so it wasn't so noticeable, then he could have a problem called sleep apnea. Basically what happens is you stop breathing while you sleep for a few seconds. This can happen a couple times up to hundreds of times during the night. The loss of oxygen combined with the fact that you actually wake up (not knowingly) when this happens causes you to be tired even after having slept a full night. Your friend should definitely see a doctor. Sleep apnea can be deadly, but it is treatable.

When you start a new job and you are working around 8 or more hours a day, your body needs time to get on a new schedule. Also, if you are really stressed with your job and other responsibilities in life, it is hard to sleep because your mind keeps on racing. Keep in mind, 8 hours of sleep is what is recommended and is all we really need. I don't think a doctor would be much help. Give your friend time.

There are many reasons why he would feel this way, Yes see a doctor,
There are medications to treat, fatigue, depression (YES DEPRESSION) this is not always an emotional affliction, sometimes it is a chemical imbalance that are body creates.
Advice for everyone regardless of AGE, Employment, SET A SCHEDULE AND STAY WITH IT! Go to sleep and wake at the same time everyday. Cut out junk food -NO NUTRITION, means NO energy!
But, see a doctor, fatigue, heart, poor nutrition, Thyroid, Lympth glands....diabeties...Yes see a doctor.

Ok, you mentioned that he has a stressful job?? Well, stress is a major contributing factor in being tired...I think he should go see a doctor but keep in mind that it may just be because he IS a team leader and he DOES do alot...normally, stressful situations or a hard job or hard labor etc, CAN cause extreme fatigue...Good luck

Sounds like it is work-stress related. Was he tired before he took the job? He needs to unload some of that stress before it affects him medically or his heart. He needs to see a doctor plus take some good multivitamins and iron if he is so tired all the time. I highly recommend seeing a doctor!

Sound like he is over worked! I use to do the same thing I do not know how many hours he works but i worked 12 hrs a day 6 days a week. Sooner or later he will get burned out. He will have to slow down or he will get sick. But that could take a long time i did it for 3 yhrs.

Stress can mess with your sleep. If it continues, he should see a doctor. But before that, he can try stress relief - for example, I find that I sleep much better if I exercise vigorously several times a week. Alcohol can also interfere with your sleep, so if he's going out drinking after work, that could be making it worse.

It sounds like your friend is restless. He is worried about his job and it is interferring with this sleeping habits. It would be good for him to find and activity where he can let loose some of his stress like going to gym, running or something like that. That way he can sleep better. So, in the morning he will be better rested.

He should see a doctor. There could be any number of things going on. He could have mono as someone else mentioned. Or he could also be anemic. It's hard to tell without seeing a doctor.
