Ive had two kids one natural no drugs at all and the second one I was in labor for 46 hours and then had a C-section. The spianl is nothing you wont feel much at all I compare it to a big misquito. If you have already had a c-section you know the pain that comes afterwards that is five times worse than the spinal. You'll do fine. And I dont have any back problems from the spianl at all.

I'm not an expert but I did have the spinal when I had my son 10 years ago and I'm terrified of needles too but honestly I didn't feel it much except for the pinch at the beginning so just relax and breathe when they tell you and it will be over with in no time and congrats on the new baby!

Just make sure you have an experienced anesthesiologist administering the spinal. With my first child, I had a horrible reaction to the spinal block & had that wicked headache for a good week after the birth. And the bad thing is there is nothing you can take or do for it. The headache pain was so bad I just laid down & cried till it wore off.

I'm just a motherhood researcher and, I think your attitude will make all the difference in helping you overcome your fears. It doesn't sound like you are going to feel much at all, and if you can keep your thoughts positive your mind will be in the right place.
Think about meeting your baby. Talk with your partner about names, how you know your first child will be a great older sibling and about how far you have come. Make a list of happy events from your own childhood and enjoy the memories while you wait for everything to happen. Give thanks to your experience the univeral power and pray for a happy outcome.
Breathe deeply and relax. Fear is nothing in the face of birth. A baby, on the other hand, is cause for celebration.
Good luck and have a good birth.

I am a medical professional as well as a mom of 4. With the lidocaine you should be fine. When I had my spinal done there was mostly alot of pressure and uncomfortable trying to stay still through contractions. You should be fine.

I had a spinal for my c-section 8 months ago. I was scared too like you. But the pain was nothing, it was like a little pinch and it's over. Then half your body goes numb, they wheel you in the operating room, take the baby out. Wheel you back in, it's fast. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's easier than pushing, I pushed with my first 2 babies, and that was soooo much harder.
Just make sure you don't lift anything heavier than the baby after your c-section. Good luck!

When you get the spinal you will feel a pinch when they put the needle and catheter in and then it burns a little when the anesthesia goes in but you don't see the needle so just relax, it really does help labor pains. If you have a good anesthesiologist you shouldn't feel much. The key word is RELAX. Good luck!

My second son was an emergency c-section and I had a spinal block with him. With my first son (vaginal) I had an epidural, and the spinal didn't hurt nearly as much as the epidural...it was much faster and really didn't hurt much more than having blood drawn.

First, why are you opting for another surgery when you may not need it?
Second, why not get an epidural instead? Its still a needle but less risk?
and Third, get over your fear of needles if you are asking for them!
Childbirth does not HAVE to involve needles. Unless there is some problem you do not have to have a c/s, its not too late to change your mind! Of course I do not know your personal details either- but make sure this really is what you want! TRUST YOU!
