To me genuine happiness is when I can touch my inner Child and get back some of the playfulness and light-heartedness that comes with innocence and simplicity.

Depends on who you ask... for some its a comfortable life, for some its a simple life, some find happiness in having lots of money and material items, where others are just as happy camping by a fire every night. Whats the inner peace in you?
Find that and you will have found genuine happiness, but its different for each individual. Thats what makes us unique

Fulfilling the highest purpose that you were intended for.

A glimpse of this is found when the artist creates a work of art that truly exemplifies all their talent and giftedness brought to full fruition - for instance, Beethoven's 9th, Bach's Art of Fugue, Michelangelo's Sistene Chapel.

But that is merely a glimpse, a foretase, if you will, of the longing for home that all men and women have in the bosom of their soul. We are struck by beauty and completion and resolution because we long for a home we have not seen, a place that yet awaits.

C.S. Lewis wrote more eloquantly on this than I can pretend to in his profound and marvelous Weight of Glory.

A wise man once said if you're happy, wait a few minutes and it will pass.

Happiness is something each of us needs to explore for ourselves since it's a very individual need. The common myth of money and looks bringing happiness that drives most people has been proven time after time in studies to be a myth.

As the stanza goes

Good literary work
Sweet song
The gamboling of young girls
Bring genuine happiness
If there be a soul so dead
That remains unmoved by any
He must indeed be
A liberated soul
Or more likely
A beast!

According to the great philosopher Charlie Brown, "Happiness is a warm puppy." Of course, I'm a cat person, so that wouldn't apply to me.

I think it's knowing that the people you love love you back, being comfortable in life (financially, in relationships, emotionally) and looking forward to starting each day (maybe not work but you know...) because you get to see the people who really matter to you.
