Durian is incredible! I first had it in Thailand and Singapore over 30 years ago, vacation with my family. I remember the reek of the marketplace, and we finally decided to try it. Bought one at the local market, the hotel wouldn't let us take it into our room - they said once it's cut open, the smell gets into the a/c and they can't get it out of the hotel.

Ate it out in the open court and I'll never forget it. Most profoundly delicious fruit I've ever had.

I hear you can purchase durian (frozen, then thawed) in some of the Asian markets around here (I live in the San Francisco Bay Area), but I haven't actually seen it yet.

Durian has to be the worst stuff ever.

I had it in the Philippines. I had it in ice cream. It is a memory I wish I could get rid of.
