Becuase psychiatrists are about as scummy as you can get. They receive free merchandise, sample packs of medication, trips and lunchins from the pharmaceutical companies. Its borderline illegal, but that's how it works.

Psychiatrists feel that most people want an easy fix. From what they are taught and what they have convinced themselves is what they would want themselves is an easy fix. I had a child who at less than a year old was told needed a Psychiatrist, doctors thought that she was Autisitc. The first wanted to put her on Ritalin on the first visit. I never went back. I was then told I wasn't doing what was best for my child. So I would take my child to these doctors who wanted to only push drugs throughout her lifetime, paxil, resperal, zoloft. When I would say to them how about behavior modification, they would then say yes, but that will take time, she needs this so that you can get her to cope better to change her behavior. Well I didn't do the drug route. I fought all those who were pill pushers and my daughter is now a teenager and has some learning disabilities (she needs a little more time in testing etc), but she reads more than 300 books a year, no one would know she even has any problems, most parents say I wish my child is as well behaved as her. Never a drug, but time, patience and a willingness to find out what worked best for her not myself. Psychiatrists not all but most have played into the needs of others also because of deregulation of treatment centers which cost so much money and insurance won't pay for such treatment. Insurance companies will pay for the quick fix of a pill, So it's not just the doctors but what society has allowed. If people spoke up and refused this treatement and demanded other ways, if people would want insurance for alternative ways of treatment, if demand was more for a different way then we would see a different way of treatment.

Because the drugs work. That is, they work when the condition is properly diagnosed and the proper medication is prescribed.
Most -- though by no means all -- psychiatric illnesses have a biological basis. Treating psychiatric illnesses with medication is thus no less appropriate than treating any other illness with drugs.
The problems come in when the condition is not diagnosed properly -- something that is quite difficult -- or when the wrong medications are prescribed. It should always be remembered that there are few definitive tests that can conclusively prove a psychiatric illness. An x-ray can show a broken bone and a blood test can confirm that one has this or that type of infection, but there are virtually no tests like these for psychiatric problems. This hole in the certainty with which psychiatric disorders can be diagnosed is the root of many problems in psychiatry.

Because they don't have all the answers like they wish they did. Also they are in cahoots with the medical industry. Doctors really don't want you to get well because they would be out of a job! Same with psychs. They all push the drugs to mask the root of the problem and cover it up rather than try to solve it. The drugs may work in some cases, but you don't need a drug for every little thing! Besides, look at the side affects of most drugs! It's enough to make you sicker just thinking about taking anything!

Maybe because they think that when you are stressed out or depressed that is the only way to solve it. They label you with bipolar or some kind of disorder only because you act and behave out of the normal from everyday life. So when you are diagnosed with a disorder and are labeled (so to speak), they medicate you. The doctor following government medical protocol decides how much medication to give you. You also become addicted to the medication prescribed and eventually you can only function on the meds and are hooked. They think that just because you’re sad or stressed you need some mood stabilizers. When the doctors decides to change you medication you have to weaned off slowly because you go through withdrawal. But what if the medicine doesn't help then what? What if the psychiatrist runs out of medicines to give to you? What do they do then? They try out patient programs and monitor your medicine that way. They push it on you again. If that doesn't work they lock you up. They just push the drugs on you cause they don't want to listen to you or take the time to work with you if your not paying cash. Were just their herd and they’re pumping us full of hormones. But grant it there is a few good doctors. They either are not taking any more patients or they are getting ready to retiree. It’s all about keeping their life and yours in control.

Well I will say this. It is NOT that they are anxious to PUSH drugs i.e. medications upon people. In many cases they do NOT know more that we do, from my past experience. This does tend to become a political issue here. The "samples' that are brought in are a 'teaser' for one...and the doctors DO get kick backs in trade of vacations and other perks for segueing the patients to try them. I have seen the Doctor's Leisure magazine and the ads are filled with medications in form of advertisements. Who do you think backs the government in their quest to line the coffers? Well I shall save o the answer. it is the Politicians. They take the monies as well from the tobacco companies.
Yes, there are so many maladies out there that the doctors will push what seem to be the lessserof evils often coausing for anti=depressents, and absolute hel for the patient at hand.
What has worked in the past for perhaps anxiety or panic is brough tdown to the level of being a chronic disorder and the meds have severe malefects. Rebounding headaches, rapid weight gain, and inability to cope with anything for feeling the die effects inclusicve of what I have just mentined and then nausea as well. We are scolded as a society and the basic GP is no better than going to see your own kitchen for remedies.
This is sad nut true, and troughout my living in a particualr state fro 11 months now wiuth cancer and kidney stones, they refuse to biopsy me at the hospital. I have quite ill sionce i moved here...and have been turned away by hospitalsd and doctors alike. Only ONE hospital took me seriously.
Chalk it up to graft on the part fo the doctors and the piliticians. I refuse...i mean REFUSE tro be a guinea pig for their distrurbances of thinking. I am fighting back and winning. They are really aghast that I am fighting for what I believe in.....I shall continue to and am going public ,have already to a degree. I, in conclusion find that NOT givig up will have it's win for me./ i have so far already done things asd far as testing water and so forth that will make them literally scream.....it is amazing what happens if you read. And I read a LOT!

You seem to be somewhat biased in your opinion about psychiatrists when you say they "push" drugs on people. You should realize that human minds are in a sense like computers, they use two basic components, hardware and software, In the case of the human mind, the physical brain is the hardware and it may have chemical imbalances which may require medication (for example, some forms of depression). This can hardly be called pushing drugs on people. On the other hand, a person may suffer a traumatic experience which affects his mind's software. In this case psychotherapy, or a combination of both approaches, is indicated. Try to rid yourself of your biases!

Some really good Psychiatrists will not push drugs on their patients because many people don't need a drug to cure their problems, however you do have people who without medication are a danger to themselves and to others as well. You have some people without meds. would have very horrible and difficult lives. Unfortunately we do have those doctors in order to keep some patients happy will give them drugs, which to me is unethical. But it happens and then those of us who need a drug in the future can't get it because of abuse. So we all suffer.

It is true that there are drugs out there for every kind of mental condition you could possibly imagine. Most psychiatrists, however, pair prescriptions with on-going therapy. The results of therapy are slow and gradually take place over time, and most patients are suffering from a condition which is interrupting their daily lives. The medication gives them a little relief so they can continue to work and have relationships while they attend therapy and try to get to the root of the problem.

Psychiatrist is another name for "snake oil salesmen." They probably do more harm to people than we know. I've heard of families with a child or other family member under the care of these kind of snake oil salesmen that are told that their family member is severely sick. When the insurance money runs out suddenly they are well. What a miracle.
