Potatoes are not fattening, it is what you put on them that makes them fattening. Potatoes and white rice are comparable when considering the glycemic index which is a measure of how fast the carbohydrates hit the blood. You want the food to enter slowly so you want a low glycemic index. But that does NOT mean don't eat carbs! If you eat whole grain (brown) rice then that is superior. It provides fiber for intestinal health and protein for muscular health.

this depends. potatoes can make u fatter if they are frizzed. boiled they can not hurt you. and it is important to know with what to eat them. if u combine them with meat, u will be fatter. the same happens with rice, rice it is good, but with vegetables. and preferably brown rice, it is healthier

i agree with PAMM...potatoes and rice are not fattening...its the butter and all the other stuff we put on them that makes them fattening and of course portion control.

it's not the potatoes or the rice, it's how much potatoes and rice, and what you add to them.

Mostly what's fattening about potatoes is what you put on them. Butter and sour cream are very fattening.

no because they are both carbohydrates and if you eat alot then i guess you will gain weight... but if you cut down on the portion size you will be ok.
