I just walked three miles on the treadmill. For breakfast I had a bowl of cereal with Vitamin D Milk. What should I have for lunch and dinner? I'm trying to lose about 10 pounds and stay in shape.

You absolutely need to eat protein within 1 hour of a hard workout. Carbs are great BEFORE the workout, because they provide immediate energy. While you're at it, have some caffeine. It can improve your workout by up to 20%. Also, make sure you have plenty of water DURING the workout. If you are only 2% dehydrated you can lose up to 20% of your endurance or 10% of your maximum strength potential. Immediately after a hard workout, your muscles go into "repair" phase and start looking for a protein source to repair damaged fibers. If there's none in your stomach, your body will attack your existing muscle fiber to find the protein it needs. While we're talking about it, your body cannot store protein, so if you're trying to gain muscle, you need to eat a little protein almost every 3 hours. Don't get out of bed at night to snack on jerky, though, that's not necessary.

Water. Seriosuly, any food will redirect your now-pumping blood supply away from your muscles and to your stomach, in order to digest the food. Anything besides water (including fruit juices, Gatorade and "energy drinks") are interpreted by the brain as food.
