why do many people in the US think that not speaking english with their accent means being stupid??

I don't think that at all. Just because someone speaks with an accent, doesn't make them stupid. In fact, most of the people saying that, only speak one language and always will. People who learn English at least speak two languages.

i think people with an accent are sexy and i have one and i was born here in USA I have found many people in USA from the South have a Southern accent and people from the North have a northern accent! I am not stupid either thank you why would anyone think thats stupid anywaay i think the is so rude if you do can you imagine everyone haveing the same voice no accent that would ne like alliens from Mars!

I don't think it means being stupid, but I feel that if a foreigner is going to live in the United States they need to learn English.

I don't care what accent a person has that's applied to their english speaking abilities as long as in my country you DO speak OUR language.

Imagine these same people in another country, expecting everyone there to accomodate their language barriers.
It appears that many americans are so egotistical that they may believe that anyone who is not exactly like themselves is an idiot. Pity the ignorant, but don't waste your time with them.

It doesn't mean they are stupid. I know plenty of people whose first language isn't English and they are very smart.

Because they're like that. It's like Latins liking their accent but they don't like so much others sometimes.

I dont think they think that. I do think we present an arrogance about it though. I find that if you try then most people in other countries appreciate it and will help us to get along in their lands.
