Sounds exactly like my son, when I would leave him with the sitter...screamed and hollered till I returned!
Dogs are alot like people, huh?
Oh, my son did finally out grow that.....He's 35 now.
Seriously...choose a small soft stuffed toy. Remove any plastic eyes or nose...put the toy in your bed and cuddle with it while you sleep...when you are going into another room, give the puppy that toy...then when you come back in to his room, take the toy away, cheerfully.....continue to do this any time he is left alone...He will soon realize that you are coming back for your toy, and won't stress so much....This is the best time to teach this, before he matures.
However, if he is a Bichon, Coton, Cavalier King Charles, or other English Spaniel, he will never be happy if you are out of sight, or more than 18 feet away from him....that is breed characteristic.

If you don't tackle this now you will have serious problems later.
Her's how.......
When you have some time to spare do everything you would normally do when you are going out. Put your coat on, pick up your bag etc. Say nothing to your pup. Then go out of the door for 1 minute. Come back and say hello to pup. Don't make a big fuss but take your coat off and put the kettle on. THEN make a fuss of him.
Next go through the whole thing again but leave the house for 2 minutes.
Keep repeating this over a week but vary the time you leave the pup. 1 min, 2 mins 30 seconds, 1 min, 5 mins, 3 mins, 30 secs, etc.
What you are doing is increasing pups confidence THAT YOU WILL COME BACK but he won't be able to anticipate how long you will be.
You could also buy him a KONG (and make it tasty) before you go out. This will distract him as he works out how to get to the great smells inside.

He will probably get over it. Treat leaving as if it is no big deal and DON'T reinforce the behavior with alot of 'babying' when he is acting like that.
Make sure he has interesting toys and chewies. If you have a bunch, rotate them. When you take some away for a few days and then give them back, it will be like a new toy to him.
Encourage him to play alone some, it is easier to have a dog who can entertain himself when you are away, and he will be happier when he is alone.

I don't know what kind of dog you have but if it's a yorkie you are doomed. Every person that I know that has a yorkie has the same problem. I know that there are some anxiety meds for animals. I would ask your vet to help you figure out what to do.

hold him all the time, get a wrap a towel, wrap it around you, and put him in. Large dog eat, sleep, and be with him. What do you think dogs are for?
Source(s):
I have had several dogs, pups, grown, and they're all the same. Once they know you won't abandon them, like where's mom? They will relax and find other things to do.

He's a puppy. This is part of the territory, unfortunately. As he gets older, it will get less and less, but for now, you're his mommy and he's young and doesn't want to be without you.

You don't. You are his "alpha". Puppies are just like babies...they are a responsiblity. If you didn't want the responsiblity then why did you get a puppy?
