I have travelled alone before and it was wonderful but I was not at a resort. I am afraid I am going to be surrounded by honeymooners and couples. I am looking forward to it as it seems like it will be a wonderful relaxing week but I wonder do other people visit these types of places alone. Has anyone travelled to a resort alone and how is it?

I stayed alone at an all-inclusive in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt this April. I went with the intention of relaxing solo, and that is definitely what happened. There were NO other single people there, and no mixed-gender groups of friends- it was entirely couples and families. I had a great time snorkeling in the Red Sea and sunbathing on the beach, but it definitely wasn't social. If you enjoy your own company then you'll have a good time.

Oh, be aware that hotel employees regard a single female resort guest as a prime target for sexual harassment! They think you're alone because you can't get a man and you're desperate for sex with anyone!

I have traveled to a resort alone...went to a resort in Uruguay by myself and had a great time.

I think it depends on each person's personality. I enjoy doing what I want to do, when I want to do it. When you travel by yourself, you can always do things faster, especially if you are a savvy traveler.

It can be lonely, though. If you are traveling to "non-touristy" places, though, friends are relatively easy to make. If you are traveling to well-known tourist resort areas, just be careful of scams.

I'd just choose the place/resort carefully. Obviously, avoid the "Sandals"-type of resorts in places like Jamaica, as these will be crammed with Newlyweds. But if you go to a "Club Med" type resort in Central America, I think you will find a much more diverse group of people, including more "business" types and singles.

Good luck and happy traveling.
