The easiest way to help them with jealousy is show the dogs that you love them equally. Buy them the same toys, dog food, everything. Also make an effort to pet them both at the same time...that may alleviate some of the jealousy but you have two dog breeds that scream for attention so good luck...

They will get over it, but be sure you are still giving your shih baby plenty of attention. They require alot of it.

Oh by the way; have some of you ever had any contact with a shih tzu? Do not under estimate the smaller breeds. My boy shih tzu didn't think twice about taking on a doberman or chasing the great dane from our yard. They are extremely dominant little dogs.

the shihtzu breeds are very jealous & territorial dogs.
the chihuahua is so much smaller so for right now the shihtzu is teaching it their dominance.
hopefully in time they'll get along.
i've gone thru this 3 x's already w/my shihtzu/lhasa mix.
at 1st , she was the same way with the puppy.
if she gets too rough or mean, you need to start scolding them to teach them it's not ok for their behaviour. in time, they'll become the best of friends.
i'm speaking from experience. i've gone thur this.
let me tell u , i have 2 small lhasa apso/shih-tzu mixes k !!! they both keep my 1-1/2 yr female boxer in line.
they were here 1st, & they've taught the female boxer dominance. she knows when the 2 other females mean business, she'll sit down, put her ears back knowing that the lil one's mean business.
they'll get along , just takes a little time
your shih-tzu has been used to for the last 3 yrs, all the luv, attention & being along.
it's all an adjustment...99.9% of the time, they'll learn to luv each other, play, & have companionship.
good luck

Try and give the shih as much individual time as you can, so he knows he's still number one, but you're also going to have to let them work it out a bit. If the chihuahua is dominant and shih can deal with it in the end, that may be how it ends up.
Good luck!

Just try treat them equally. Time will make them best friends.

My Standard Schnauzer was 2 when we got a female Std Schnauzer puppy. He was really rough with her (playing). He just didn't understand and I think he was a bit jealous too.
Within 6 months you could not tear them apart. They have been the closest buddies I've ever seen.

Just for now, pay more attention to your Shih tzu.

Give them time to adjust. Either they will get along over time or pne dog will eventually dominate & the other dog will accept a smaller territory. It's just the way it works with two dogs who display this behaviour.

Let them duke it out then. They are wanting to be the leader in pack. You have to show both of your dogs that you are the leader and they (the dogs) are the followers. Until you take control of your pack they are always going to fight over you. You are the one who chooses which dog you want to spend time with not the Shihtzu.
