the deciples of the Bible are not just a bunch of guys pulling a pactical joke for the past 2000 years. What if they truly made it all up? The bible is our only true documentation of Jesus' time.

It's funny how some of you react to one that you think is a non-beleiver.

You have proved my point: I am a Christian. I do go to church, and I study the Bible often. I have repeatedly read Revelations as well as Genesis. My favorite book of the Bible is Psalms, because I find them conforting. I love the stories in Matthew and maybe even John. My favorite verses are 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever beleiveth in him shall not parish, but have everlatsting life.

But do we not see, as Christians, how critical we have become of the non-believers. This is not how Jesus intended us to preach His Word, by calling them stupid and telling them to research themselves. Most of you have sadly proved my point.

Your comment about the Bible being the only true documentation of Jesus' time is in error. At least three historians of the period wrote of Jesus, and none of them were Christian. Indeed, one was Roman.

But history is full of falsehood. So if you will agree that Atilla the Hun may not have existed (writings only, no archeoligical evidence), I will agree there's no empirical proof of Jesus.

But religion is faith. And faith comes from the spirit. If you believe your wife has been faithful to you, it is not because you have irrefutable evidence. It is trust. And trust is faith.

Some Christians have only the book. But many others have the experience of God in their lives. They need no other proof.

It is as if you are feeling young and whole and well and strong. Is that the time you go to the Doctor to be tested for proof that you are well?

For Christians who have experienced God it is the same. We feel something beyond ourselves that make us feel loved and safe and confident. Just as our bodies tell us when we are strong and well, our spirit tells us when we are loved and protected.

We do not need to question the Book any more than we need to see a Doctor when we are physically well. We are content to leave that to those who have spiritual infirmities.

The Bible is not the only documentation for the life of Jesus, although it is the primary one. The historian Josephus, who lived at the same time, recorded that Jesus claimed to be the Jewish Messiah. There are other archaeological and historical sources supporting some of what is said in the Bible.

But perhaps more to the point of your question, 11 of the 12 disciples (counting Matthias and not Judas Iscariot) were killed for believing in Christ, in most cases in violent executions. If it was really a practical joke, don't you think they would've cracked, even just one of them, before giving their own lives for this joke? Consider what they could have gained-- as a formal disciple of Christ, by renouncing Christianity they would have spared their lives and been given great riches to act as a spokesman for those who were persecuting Christians. Yet none of them did, and only John died of natural causes (after being exiled to Patmos).

I think the best answer to this question, for yourself, would be found by getting into a good bible teaching church and a bible study. Take some time to really read the bible. The books of the new testament.....read them, pour over them. Talk to God about them, ask Him to reveal the truth, whatever it may be, about the bible, about these men who wrote what is now our New Testament.

This question cannot be answered overnight for yourself, if you haven't yet studied the bible in depth. But it can be answered, and in a way more joyous than you could ever imagine.

I pray that God would give you the answer and that it will give you all that you seek in life. And by the way, a person who comes to know the answer to your question....will be among the most fortunate people who has ever lived.

That's why they are called belifes! You believe and trust in something you think is true. I'm a christian and my grandma told me one day: "Living like a christain is a great thing, you get together at a church and enjoy eachothers company beliveing in something great! And when you die if there is a god (Which we all believe there is) we will all go to heaven together and enjoy eachothers company with someone who is great. And if there isn't wasn't it a wonderful way to live? Living as a family enjoying one another?" So even if the bible is a prank (Which i believe is false) wasn't it great to live as if it was real?

The bible is no more a true documentation than a Superman comic book is....
The bible is nothing more than fables and tales that were put to print hundreds of years afterwards...
No historian nor theologian will ever state that it is fact....
The bible is only a book of stories of faith....Faith is a personal feeling, not fact...

Not many men are stupid enough to die for a joke. People will die however for something they believe in. Foxes Book of Martyrs records their deaths brought about because of their beliefs - not because of a joke. This book also lists others who have died for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Many people have the Holy Ghost within them, and He bears witness that the Bible is Gods word to us.

Because their life was in danger for claiming the things that they claimed.
Would you hold steady to a lie if you knew people were wanting to kill you for it?
Same with Jesus. He said he was the son of God. What did it get him? Crucified!

You really think he would've died for a lie?
