Those names may have originally been German-Jewish-sounding names like Greenstein, etc. Have you ever heard of a Purplestein? Didn't think so. Also, Brown may have been Braun (German for Brown), and White may have been Weiss (German for White). If you were to see a Red, it might have been Rot (German for Red).
Black in German is Schwartz. So, you probably do have Blacks in this country that came from Germany... but because the word is not similar in English, you didn't notice it.

Most names that Americans have are derivatives of their ancestral names, that were Americanized when they entered into the US at Ellis Island. If the immigration officer couldn't figure out how to spell someones name, they usually wrote down the phonetic spelling of what they heard. I'm sure that there are surnames out there that actually describe other colors, but they're still in the native dialect, and pronunciation.

I knew somebody with the last name Purple. And Orange too! (Walter Orange, drummer of the Commodores, for one).

nicely, you have the common English surnames e.g. Smith, Johnson, Williams, Brown, Jones, Miller, Davis and so on Then there are the "unique" surnames nicely-known interior the U.S. e.g. Garcia, Rodriguez, Martinez, Sanchez, Gomez, Nguyen finally, you have the elementary surnames that are no longer TOO nicely-known, and in my opinion could be extremely stylish, state-of-the-paintings, epic... e.g. gray, Perry, Cox, Diaz, Bennett, Turner, Carter Take your %. (:
