I had a 45 minute arguement with a friend about this. Finally we went and found a chef and asked her, she said that there is actually a difference between cheesecake and cheesepie, it depends on the shape, what its served on, and what the outside is made out of. For example a pie has a crust over the entire thing, including the top. Cake generally has only frosting over the top.

no, i don't think it should. it is the consistency of a cake, shaped like a cake, and "cheesepie" just sounds like it is a pastry filled with cheese.
