Comfort, attention given to you, preks, and service.

In Ecconomy you get smaller seats, and service usually only when you buzz for it.

Bussiness Class gives you wider seats with more leg room, and you get more attentive service along with better food and more movie choices along with the option to watch different movies than your neighbors.

First Class gives you the most perks with the biggest and most comfortable seats, the most leg room, (on long haul flights the seats convert into beds), all the above mentioned in bussiness class, plus the flight attendants come around very freaquently to check on your needs.

Most airlines these days are doing seating by first come...they have A, B & C tickets...the A's board first then the B's, then C's...so the A's get to pick seats first....you get on and pick yer seat of choice out of what is there.
There are still airlines that have a "first class" section...the difference there is the price and treatment. You get better food, drink, etc... Special treatment.
Also most airlines are having stop overs so it is not a straight through flight so they do not have to serve meals, just snacks. Exception would be an overseas flight on the meal thing.

Hope this helps.

The major difference is comfort level. I just flew home from Paris in economy. Unless you are under 5'4" and are quite slim, you will be rather uncomfortable in economy. I will never fly to Europe again unless it is in Business class where you have room to stretchout in recliner style chairs. The food is better in business, but that was not a huge issue. They had shrimp scampi and I had Penne pasta and chicken. COMFORT is what counts. Movies were good in both plus you can always take your own portable DVD player with some movies of your own.

The level of service, the size of the seats, what you get fed, pre-boarding lounges.

Check an international airline for some of the most excessive, like private beds on overnight flights. On domestic, it's basically bigger seats and free food and alcohol.

Coach is like a large sardine can, Business Class is a little more roomy, and I've never had the pleasure of seeing First Class but I'm sure they have loads of leg room, nicer reading materials, better food, etc.

It all depend on the company you are using, if it is a respected company then the economy class will be better then the one in a less known companies.
But in general the difference is on the level of place, comfortable seats, meal quality and quantity.
