Ugh, I know this from experience. Wet a razor and run it along the beret to get all the fuzzy stuff off. Wear it on your head while it's wet and try to shape it just right. Let it stay on your head and continually shape it. That way it will finally stay in that general position. Why didn't they just keep the soft caps?

I prefer a three bladed razor to shave mine, and don't press too hard. I wet a beret and shape it on my head and wear it until dry. Also cut out all but about an inch in the middle of the cardboard piece in the crown.

Soak your beret in warm water and let it air dry into the shape you like. When dry take a wool comb and shave the felt.
