I'm no expert on this, but I would theorize that it's because you went to bed with a lot of different things on your mind. Also, you might have multiple things troubling you, or multiple questions you're considering.
One other possibility is that your subconscious mind is trying to show you a connection between two things that you didn't think were related. For example, you dream you're at a baseball game, and the announcer starts asking you over the loudspeaker what you're going to do with your life. Then you discover yourself standing in the middle of a meat-packing plant. It may mean that your baseball skills haven't improved lately because you've been having a bad relationship with your father who works at a meat packing plant.
Just an idea.

dreams are basically, the raw views which you absurb during the day, and you mind is like a HARD Disk which needs to clean up the temporary trash..
while you sleep u see different things, and somehow those things which you see are related to your fantasy or your fears...or things u hate most or love most... things related to people you know..
research shows that everyone has dreams, and 1s in a four week almost everyone sees a nightmare.. sorta thing.. it's not something with aliens or weird things but nightmare can be a dream in which you see stuff you never wanted to see, or hate most.. and you feel disgusting about that site..
and don't worry it's all about what you think when ur concious..
so the Drive in ur brain has some scratches.. so what every one has some..

Dreams are fed by what you experience and think during your waking hours. Despite rapid scene changes, there will always be a thread that connects these seemingly disparate images. If you can, try writing down these dream sequences when you first wake up. You may find that there is a theme in your awake life that you need to address.

Your dreams are a dynamic creation of your thoughts, both good and bad. If one idea in your dream moved into another its because you dont' have a full understanding of the idea enough to play it out fully. You then picked the next closest idea and rolled with it.
You can control your dreams by using your imagination during your waking hours. These ideas will be just as valid experiences for the sake of your dreams and you will see them in full vivid detail as long as you play out the scenario in the way you think it should.

i'm no expert but maybe its your subconscious mind running through people, places, things that you've been thinking about aloud or not through a course of several days jamed together....its sort of like a book your flipping through the pages fast like and the ones your vaguely remember are things like a one word or person or place that stood out and caught your eye or attention. sometimes you can have dishivo too and that could have been from a dream.

Narrated by Abu Qatada (Radhiallaho anho):
I heard Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) saying:
"A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan. So if anyone of you sees (in a dream) something he dislikes, when he gets up he should blow thrice (on his left side) and seek refuge with Allah from its evil for then it will not harm him."
Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 7 : No. 643

Your brain is so intelligent it can change channels when it wants to. I think we have something like 4 dream sessions a night (on a good night, I mean).

Because you dream about what you think about...but...better or worse. Kind of like a good movie of your life or something. My dad said it's something about what you thought about before you went to sleep. So, it's all in your brain, which means like me, you probable have A.D.D.

i learned dreams are just visions we have had in the past
and sometimes with those visions from the past you can get a lil out of your future
and the main person in the dream is sometimes about you
like your dream can be all about your sister
but in reality you are your sister in the dream
