Yes, if you smoke, don't do it around him, and especially don't blow smoke in his face. Help him find a hobby that busies his hands. Wood carving, weaving, crocheting, knitting, carpentry, model building....cars, airplanes, ships. Lean to play an instrument...flute,guitar, drums, learn to dance. Learn sign language... it is beautiful fto watch ...like hand poetry. All of these you can learn together...and in that way encourage each other as well. There is nothing sissy about leaning to sew, crochet, knit or do needle work of anykind. It is actually soothing ..plus he can make something useful for you, himself, a friend or a parent.
But this worries me....it is good he quit...BUT, did he also quit because he is tired of it? If he is tired of coughing, vomiting, coughing til he vomits, cramps, headaches etc and he is quitting for himself as well, he stands a much better chance of staying quit. That does not mean that he can't or won't be able to quit just for your sake tho. I hope he will be able to stay quit, throat, cancer, oral cancer is horrible. He would have to have a trach put in his neck, and have to learn how to speak by covering the tube in his throat. By quiting, let him know, he has most likely saved himself from this surgery.
He will have the munchies, lack of nicotine will make him hungry. So he needs to eat salads and eat sensibily during the "muchie" withdrawal part of this.If he really needs something in his mouth; try painting or drawing classes together. He can hold a paintbrush or color pencil etc in his mouth to satisfy this. Oh, making pottery could be fun as well as useful too. Hope this will help both of you with this commitment you have made. Him to quit and you to help and support him.

with will power and determination he sure can do it because its all up in the mind. All he need now is support from his family and love ones.If he is really strong enough....he will pull it through in a week time...I too quit smoking without the help of anything...and no cold turkey too..Dun think about the symthoms and they won't come to you.I used to be smoking 3 big packs daily without fail. And I quit overnight for the sake of quiting....if i can why not him???all the best!

Keep him out of situations where he's used to smoking. Go places where it's not allowed. Be supportive and remind him how much healthier he's going to be!
