Because I'd like to try it!
Anyone know?
Oh and PLEASE don't say that they were real places because there is NO archaeological evidence for the existence of either. Remember that as it's important.

Wow there sure are a lot of professional archaeologists here today.
Tell me professors, what actual, credible, physical evidence do you have for the existence of either of these two mythical cities.
And cite your findings with provenance please.
(hint; you can't, as there is NO evidence for the existence of either of these two places. If there was, it would be the greatest archaeological discovery of the millenia. Just because you say "yes it's real" doesn't make it so. Understand? good)

There are many arguments about the "Cities of the Plain," Sodom and Gomorrah, and what they did to elicit their destruction in the Genesis narrative by the Hebrew God El. Because homophobia is a powerful force in many Judeo-Christian faith groups today, the traditional interpretation that the sin of Sodom was "sodomy" (specifically, male homoerotic attraction and homosexuality) has a lot of currency. Problem is, it's probably not true, at least not directly.
The sin for which both Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed was not sexual. It was religious. They were destroyed for worshiping the rival religion, to which many Hebrews in the time of the composition of the Genesis narrative had converted, and the primary name for that religion is Asherism, the dominant religion of the Canaanite Near East at the time of the composition of the Torah.
Asherism was based on the Canaanite trinity of the Goddesses Asherah and Anat and their male consort, represented by the many Baals. Some features of that male consort were absorbed into the Hebrew God (or G-d) variously named Yahweh and El in the Hebrew Scriptures. But, as numerous Tanakh (Old Testament) passages make clear, the Hebrews continued to worship Asherahism alongside the Mosaic religion for centuries. Asherah's symbol was the gold calf, for example (sound familiar from the idolatry of Aaron in Exodus?); her sacred symbols as the goddess of death & rebirth were the snake & fruit-tree (sound familiar from the comparatively late Levite invention of the Genesis 1-2 story?); the prophet Elijah orchestrated the massacre of the priests of the Baals, and Hezekiah used genocidal methods to overcome the priestesses of Asherah.
Anyway, the Asherite religion included, like many of the religions of the ancient Mediterranean Basin region, sacred sexual rituals. Like her analogue Inanna in Sumer, Asherah had "sacred harlots"--priests and priestesses whose vocations included having sex with temple visitors in sexualized rituals as a way of conveying the blessings of the goddess of sex & fertility (another key aspect of Asherah) to adherents of the sect. Some of these priests practiced strictly same-sex ritual sexuality (this is a common pattern for thousands of years in the Mediterranean Basin--see the galli of Cybele in Roman-Hellenistic times...) as a kind of "gay sexual priesthood." Sodom was a temple city of this sect, in the view of many historians. The hot man-on-man action condemned by the Bible (apparently) wasn't even about ordinary, secular sex--it was a repudiation of the most sacred ceremonies of the Asherite sect. Gomorrah may (information is sketchy) have been a temple city of the hetero-erotic sexual mysteries (hieros gamos).
So, to answer your short question at ludicrous length:
Gomorrah was famous for the worship of Asherah, the Goddess Mother of the Universe. And for that (belonging to a different religion) its inhabitants were destroyed, in the mythology of the ancient Habiru (Hebrews).
So some things in world religions havne't changed all that much.

Gomorrah commited the same sins as Sodom and other cities. You shouldn't say that they didn't exist because some scientists believe they are under the Dead Sea or buried near it due to earthquakes along the Jordan Valley Rift aka a fault line that runs across the Jordan Valley.

Sorry to pop your bubble, but Sodom and Gomorrah is a real place. The Bible says so. That's all the evidence we need! Sodom and Gomorrah was a city full of immorality and homosexuality. That's why God destroyed it with fire and brimstone! Know why? Because homosexuality is an abomination to God!!!!

I have personally held a brimstone in my hand that was picked up where Sodom and Gomorrah was, its desolate now except for lions and a few animals. This was presented bu a Messianic Jewish Rabbi and a newspaper to back it up with pictures. They were both known for sexual perversion.

Gomorrah was the sister city to Sodom, it was like the suburbs of Sodom. It was also famous for its homosexual practices.
