i had two ladies come right up on my property last sat, and they tried to preach the bible to me. i told them very politely that i was not interested. But they said they wanted to read me scripture anyway. i was kinda getting mad because i told them i was not interested but yet the persisted. Now i love god and i believe in jesus but i did not feel like i needed to be preached to. then they asked me what i thought of the war on terriorists. well i told them that i felt like it all stemmed from religions fighting with each other over who was the greatest. i told them we never should have gotten into this war ion the first place. and after i got finished explaining my point of view, they just sat there and stared at me. i was very nice when i explained my position and i don;t know why they were rendered speechless. but my point is if you are going to bother someone on a sat at their own home, you better be able to talk the talk, otherwise preach to someone else. what are your thoughts?

some of you are asking where i am coming up with the idea that this is a religios war. well i do believe that the recordings from the planes that went down on 9/11, right before they crashed you heard the terriorists say in the name of allah. and all the suicide bombings are all in the name of allah. thats why i say it is a religios war, and you do all remember when the dutch wrote political cartoons of allah. they were bombed for it too. it is all about religion. also oil too because we would have bombed them all a long time ago if our OIL was not there.

I think a "no trespassing" sign would have taken care of this for you.

I think that they over stepped their bounds and tried to press their beliefs onto u. Even if this was done unintentionally, it is still the wrong thing to do...It was also very self-righteous and not to mention unpolite of them to judge u when u made ur statement about the war...given the circumstance where they are visitors to ur home at what may or may not be a convenient time for u, they should at least show some respect for ur opinions when they ask u a question.... ;)

Making converts is an interesting subject. So many religions feel that this is their mission- to make converts. I am a christian. How seriously am I to take the admonition of Jesus to "go and make disciples of all nations"? Two things to commend these ladies for- 1) they take their religion seriously. too many of us don't take it serious enough 2) it sounds like they were trying to be good listeners. Either that, or they were entranced by your eloquence :o).
This is a tough one, because as a christian, I want to take my faith seriously (otherwise I'm labeled as a hypocrite). And, yet, I don't want to bother anyone who doesn't want to talk about what they believe (otherwise I'm labeled as a "bible thumper fanatic"). I agree that sensitivity to where people are at is greatly lacking by many. That's why I like this site. You actually have people who want to interact on religious subjects. You don't have to worry about walking up to someone, interupting their day and coming across as obnoxious and intrusive.
Hoping you have a good day.

I'm guessing they were "rendered speechless" because they were shocked at the ignorance which caused you to classify the Iraq conflict as some kind of "religious war."
When 29 million people who are mostly Muslim are liberated from the clutches of a brutal dictator who's also a Muslim, I don't see where the "religious war" idea comes into this.

First of all I have to say yes I'm a Christan. But i don't really disagree with what they did. Sometime Christians do just preach at people cuz Its what the bible say to do and it makes them feel better. They forget to take a more personal approach to telling the good news.

I agree. If you're going to try and push your views on someone else, the least you can do is prepare a set of arguments for your point of view. Otherwise it's almost as if you've been brainwashed - hearing "this is right" and believing it without just cause.

Often the "missionaries" are simply teens trying to prove themselves to their religions community (often protestants do this). Its a really sad litmus test, and as a Catholic I think its kind cruel to force teens and young adults who may not have the capacity or will to evangelize to as part of their requirement to be an adult in the church.
