I really all depends on the ages of the animals. I have 2 lab puppies and 4 cats, all of them get along just great, as a matter of fact one of my kittens actually tries to nurse on my female dog and she is fine with it. All of my animals are rescues and were very tiny at the times that i got them, not all at once, the puppies came first and then one cats so my dogs were use to her and the other cats came when their eyes were still gray so the dogs are all they know. Good Luck~!!!

Do you know anyone that has a puppy or young dog who could bring their pet to your home? That way you could see how they interact. I have two cats (one male and one female, both about 6 yrs.) and they have gotten along with three dogs that have been in and out of our house. The first dog was our first pet and he was great with cats. While we had him we had at least 12 cats in and out of the house at different times. Then the second dog was a large breed and wanted to play alot but did no harm. The third dog is my daughter's and her dog is part terrier so she is very active. When she is here she also wants to play alot but the cats just sit and look at her like she is their entertainment. You will have a settling in period of time for the cats and the dog but I think it will work out very nicely and you will have a great family!!

I have two cats and a Border Collie. The Collie and one of the cats have been brought up together and get on just fine, both 2 years old. The older cat is 13 years old and scares the bejabbers out of the dog so they keep their distance from each other. Give them their own space and dont shut them in a room overnight or when you go out and they will be fine.

How old are your cats? Usually is easy to socializa cats before they are one year old.
If they are older than that, it may be a little difficult, also the breed of the cat will be important.
Try things like putting the food recipient away from each others, also wrap your puppy on clothes that your cats sleep on, so they puppy will smell familiar to the cats.

I have a yellow Lab. Even though we adopted him when he was 3-years old, we've found him to be amazingly adaptable to any situation -- an important trait, because we have moved so much because of my job. He is gentle with the children, gentle with our aging Beagle and quite willing to share space with neighborhood cats who visit our yard. I think you would have to worry more about how the cats would react to a new, rambunctious Lab puppy in their space before you would have to worry about the Lab!

it depends on the animal and how young they all are. When I was younger we got a puppy (st bernard and lab mix) about the same time our cat had kittens. She kind of adopted out dog as her own and even when he was 50 times her size she could still control him like a mother animal. Of course this dog was the size of a st bernard and convinced he was a cat.. so he did try to sit on people laps full grown.

They will be just fine, i have 3 labs and 1 cat and they are just fine together, despite the fact that my cat is mean to them. Those dogs dont care much about cats, they are friendly with everyone.

Really any dog can get along with cats as long as you teach it from the start that "cats are friends not food." Just make sure that if you get the dog to make sure that you give all of them the same amount of attention.
