People do not respect the rules because parents do not teach respect any longer. Both parents work now so there is less time for things like that. Homework, sports events, dinner, baths and bed. That is all anyone has time for.
Parents are ultimately responsible for their child's behavior.

Why does how a person was raised or not raised excuse them from following orders? Yes, at one time or another all of us have broken rules we are meant to follow, but come on, if your in a bus stop shelter and the sign says no smoking, don't smoke! Or walk outside where it's not so bothersome to those who don't smoke. It's just common sense people!

I'd agree that people have lost their sense of control and respect for others. But I think most people do have regard for rules. If that were not the case, everyone would stop and a red light, look both ways, and run the light if no one's coming. Although that does happen, it's not the norm.

WOW DO I AGREE! I'm a teacher and only 30. I am amazed at how my students do whatever, whenever. Then, they brag about it.
For example, on my way to teach summer school, ("I failed, boo-hoo, it is so unfair.") one of the students was standing 15 feet from the stop sign that led to campus, urinating in the weeds! I almost wrecked my car! I reported it and was told by the male VP, "Well, I guess he really had to piss." What is that?!
Unfortunately, it only takes one parent-teacher conference to see where it comes from. Our saying, "The acorn never falls far from the tree."
I have had parents tell me:
*that "talking about sex toys (used other word) while in class, is fine"(Her son also brought hardcore porn in and put it on the floor, next to his desk, for me to see
*"Can't you give extra credit? It's not fair that________ fails!" (The kid slept 28 days in class and had a 30%)
and
*"Who does that woman think she is, telling the kids they have to show up to take their finals or they'll fail? My daughter will pass no matter what!"(The kid missed 80 days of school.)
And, this is the norm. Please don't think they are extreme examples for shock value. Parents are missing the boat and EVERYONE has "rights" to do whatever they want, except me. I can't even discuss ethics, morals or politics with the kids. Heck, I can't even wear a cross on my chain. It is a sick, sick world and only getting worse. This is the future. I shudder.

You are correct. So many people today disregard and flaunt rules constantly. They think the rules are for "other people", not them. Alot of people today are self-centered and don't want to abide by any rules, and they don't really care about anyone but themselves. It's all about looking out for No. 1.

i think you should calm down and realize not everyone cares about 'rules' Yes people do sometimes get carried away but are you really worried about people crossing the street and smoking, outside no less. yeah people are rude and people generally suck but think about how many 'rules' you have broken...I'm sure its at least a few.... Just relax enjoy life, stop worrying about other people, make yourself happy.

I agree that there has been more dangers then there were back then. But, yet we had more technology, too. We must try to be more on thier shoes, too. They might have a bad childhood or something. Communication is the key to everything.

My answer is yes.I agree with you. Especially traffic rules
I've noticed to and from my work drivers pass me on hills
in the middle of towns,on curves, with cars coming toward
them and barely getting back in traffic. Also,I'm tailgated
quite often by drivers with their lights on bright.

I agree with you!
People please teach your children good manners, to follow the rules, and to respect how their actions will affect others! Then make sure they teach their children. (ps I'm only 36, not some old fart)
Whew, thanks for letting me get that out.
