"Religion" is MAN'S view of God. Therefore, it causes problems, being clouded with what MAN thinks God is trying to say. There are many ways that a man can interpret the Word and be correct in his assumption, but to make each assumption the basis for attaining salvation is what clouds the issue. John says that there is "ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism, ONE God and Father of all who is above all, through all, and in you all." For centuries, we have taken literal and allegorical methods of interpretation and turned them into what we THINK is right. The problem with that is the Scripture that says, "There is a way that SEEMETH right to a man, but in the end thereof are the ways of DEATH!" Personally, I take that Scripture to mean that what man thinks isn't always right without spiritual guidance when we interpret. The Scripture also says that "the Word of God is spiritually given, spiritually discerned." So, to read the Bible with a carnal or fleshly mind is to lack understanding and attempt to give the reader " poetic license" to interpret how he/she sees fit, therefore covering any sins they may have by their OWN means instead of God's. Remember Adam and Eve when they first realized they were naked? They created garments of fig leaves in an attempt to hide their sins, therefore creating man's first act of religion. God however, showed them that because sin had come into the picture, that they had to have a blood sacrifice to wipe away the sin. This is why He substituted their fig leaves for goatskin; it was His way of teaching them about the difference between religion and salvation.

It has always been a problem, but there is one thing today that makes it much more dangerous than before.

Today, any schmuck can put together a device capable of killing thousands of people. This is not rocket science anymore. We have the ability to create weapons of mass destruction in our bathtubs.

And that's different than the old days, when we fought with swords and shields. I fear that we are on the brink of what could potentially become World War 3. All it's going to take is for some Islamic leader to get his hands on a nuke. And when he does (hello, Iran), you can bet he'll use it on someone.

This will cause a retaliatory strike, which will be spun by the zealots as an "attack" on Islam. And this will fire up the militants all over the world to launch a full scale war against the "infidels". And that's when the real mess will start. The reasons for fighting will be forgotten. And all that will remain are ideological differences, and racial prejudice. The superpowers will launch missiles, the weaker powers will use dirty bombs. But in the end, we will destroy each other, all in the name of....

"GOD"

This is the fear that atheists have. We don't want your Armageddon. We want enlightenment, and peace.

Yes religion has become a problem.

Religion is what is left behind when God moves on. It is empty tradition without substance, and what good is tradition? A relationship with God is completely seperate from"religion" and the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish the difference between religion and relationship means that problems such as this are presented.

Religion has always been a problem. Religion will always be a problem. Religion is an institution that is headed by MAN. Last time I checked, people suck at leading anything. Look at government.

People all too quickly mistake spirituality for religion. Spirituality is your relationship with God. Your religion is the institution created by someone to gather people of the same faith. Well that someone can screw things up real quick.

No, I don't see a problem with it. We are all raised in different cultures with different values. I don't see how we could all possible relate to the divine in the same ways. I don't believe in any ONE and ONLY true way to relate to divinity, and I really wouldn't want to have all of the world's religions homogenized. We already have too many things that are watered down, dumbed down, and sugar-coated for the masses.

No. Religion is the path to the Truth which is the solution to all problems. The real problem is people, especially those who don't recognize the Truth even when it stares them in the face.

Forget religion.

Christ is the path of salvation.
Christ is the truth of God's Word.
Christ is the life eternal.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Christ is the tree of life.

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
