That was written by a nation on the edge of extinction. They were a handful of people on a long journey through deep desert. If you didn't pull your weight you were a danger to others, and could not be brought.

As far as the curse was concerned, they don't mean swearing at them, they mean cursing them. Anyone who placed a curse on anyone else without a very good reason would most likely have been stoned.

That's the Old Testament, Christ came to write a new law. Except when it's convenient for most Christians. Like homosexuality. Then we go back to the laws that also say we can't eat shellfish and pork and that if a man rapes a woman he is obligated to marry her.

Take ALL the laws in the OLD Testament

Keep the law as it is unless modified by Christ.
Understand the punishment for breaking the law was placed on Christ when HE hung upon the cross.

Before you spout your HALF truths read the WHOLE Bible

Ever since the death of Jesus Christ those passages no longer apply. The best way to punish your children if they are disobedient is to spank them ("spare the rod, spoil the child")

Sure, pinch a few heads off the rest will straighten up. Apparently your parents failed in their rearing of you. Their job was to teach you to respect God and to have a wholesome dread of displeasing Him. Their job was to teach you about Jesus.
