Different airlines use different approaches (it's called "yield management").

It won't hurt to watch prices for a couple of weeks, see price dynamics in the past and make your conclusion.

There is a website that plans in the future serve people with questions like yours - http://www.farecast.com/. At this point, they have only a beta version (for flights from Seattle and Boston).

prices will most likely go up. best to book as early as possible.

actually prices will probably rise as it gets closer to when the flight leaves. the airports to look at are dulles (IAD) or balt./washington (BWI)
