Pugsy is currently the Alpha dog in your house (excluding yourself of course) if you bring in another dog that will threaten Pugsy's place and make him/her very unhappy and possibly more aggressive. However, getting a smaller dog (read puppy if you do want a bigger dog breed) will allow Pugsy to dominate the dog at first which will make Pugsy happy and eventually even though the other dog may grow bigger it will always be submissive to your bulldog. Also do not just bring the new dog in cold turkey. "Introducing" a new dog can take weeks and you should have plans to keep them mostly seperated for the first few days atleast. There are lots of books on the subject, I'd read a few. Oh yeah, and taking your dog to "pick out" the new dog won't work very well, I've done this before and they got along just fine until we tried to bring them home. Your dog on neutral turf will treat other dogs significantly differently than it will on its own
turf.

You can have fun with any dog as long as you show it love, affection and that you are the "alpha". Take your Bulldog to the park! But - there is a special vaccination available now for dogs who go to the park with other dogs. You'll have to ask your vet the name of it. If you really want another dog, you have to make sure that both dogs are OK with each other. Let them meet on a neutral ground - a park - anything like that. Just do not bring another dog into your home "cold turkey!" Your Bulldog will resent the new dog forever. I agree with the people who told you that a smaller dog would be better. However - you could get a puppy. As he grows up your Bulldog won't be intimidated by him because of his size and the big dog will have respect for the bulldog.
Good Luck!

What ever sex your bull dog is make the new dog the opsite sex. That is the best combination as you will not have same sex aggression problems.
I would take you current dog to the adoption plae and on neutral ground intorduce the new dog to see how things go. Have one of the people there help you.
Sometimes small dogs will attack a large dog and it can be dangerous as the small dog can be easily killed.
Why are you getting another dog at this time? DO you feel your dog needs a playmate or company? Dogs like bulldogs are not very active and really do not need a playmate and most would be happier as an only dog.

In general your dogs going to feel threaten by any new dog. A dog the size of a Newfoundland will certainly scare him initially. I don't any reason the 2 couldn't get along. It would really depend on the temperament of the 2 dogs. The real issue is that you may need to exercise them separately as the bulldogs short legs will prevent from keeping up with the larger dog.

I've had different sized dogs all together inside the house before, no problem. If they are grown already, they may fight,, but dogs are pack animals and do this to establish their place in a pecking order. Sometimes it doesn't work though, two dogs just simply can't get along. Then there's another problem for Yahoo Answers to help with. Good luck.

If you look for a real Dog and a Friend and Kid watcher this is what you want:
The Great Dane is a breed of dog known for its large size and gentle personality. The breed is commonly referred to as the "Gentle Giant".
The Great Dane must be spirited, courageous, always friendly and dependable, and never timid or aggressive. They are intelligent, strong dogs that are protective and loyal to their owners. Many are gentle and delicate, although not to the extent of being timid. They take to training well and are fairly low maintenance compared to many other breeds.
if you wanna see the pics of this beautiful Giant check the link in the source.
After this I suggest German Shepard ;)

size can make a difference, although I think smell is also very important. but that's something only Pugsy can relate to.
you don't need a little yap-hound though, a beagle or a terrior would be a good choice. although my experience with Jack Russel terriors leads me to believe that ADHD is endemic to the breed. ;-)

Pusgy should realize that dogs come in all shapes and sized.. if you worry too much about the size of your new dog then you are not doing him any favors.. dont treat him like a baby

the size of the dog doesn't matter, only their demeanor, get a sweet dog and he will get along great with pugsy.
