I'd like to bring a cat to my home to live outside. I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to keep her tick free?

If you are looking for a non medicated way to keep you cat tick free you can try giving her garlic powder in her food, garlic tablets, or you can feed her garlic cloves. The down side about this method is that your cat will smell like garlic.

You could also try flea and tick shampoo. This will keep the tick and fleas off but you have to keep reapplying.

They also have advantage flea and tick. This product I believe lasts for 3 months.

I prefer the natural way of doing things and the easiest would probably give your cat garlic powder in her food (not to mention it is also the cheapest). Garlic can also be used for dogs (just incase you have any)

Good Luck and hope you get you cat tick free. :)

I sure hope so. My cat many years ago got seizures from the Hartz flee medicine. She had seizures about 2 a month sometimes more often until she finally passed away 7yrs later. I only buy medicine from the vet now. I usually use advantage (purple kind because by cat is a beast) but I recently moved and the vet in the neighborhood only sells these pills so I was very hesitant but I decided to try it and I didn't have any problems and it worked great so I will be buying that in the future. Plus the pill was only 15 with tax so it very affordable.

There are preps that you can buy at a pet store that will not only protect from ticks, but also fleas. Or- your vet can give the kitty a shot once a month to protect.

Either way - make sure you get something that says good for fleas, too. That will protect you when you pet your cat from flea bites.

I have an indoor/outdoor cat, and he does get ticks. If he has been in the woods, you should inspect him/her to see if he/she gets ticks, and if it does, either remove it with tweezers, or comb it out. Then, either pop it in the microwave, or flush it down the toilet. You can also order Frontline plus for your cat to keep away ticks and fleas. You just open the packet, and put the goo between your cat's shoulder blades, and you repeat it when the packet tells you to. You can get it in the pet shop, and they mail it to you, I believe. Or maybe they give it to you. It depends.

FRONTLINE PLUS works great! i use it for my dog, but we also have a cat and are going to buy it for her soon too. It repels/kills both ticks and fleas and you can buy it on www.petmeds.com for cheaper prices. flea/tick collars rarley work, and usually don't work well so i don't recommend them, it'll be a waste of money and time. advantage also works well that i've heard but haven't used it. also, while both products repel tickets if your cat goes through tall grass just check her and pull off the ticks too. good luck!

Buy Advantage or another product like that. If she still gets ticks, bring her to a vet.

There are chemicals you can spray or sprinkle on your lawn that kill ticks, and I recommend using Frontline for Cats. Frontline works great for my dog.

Fleas and ticks affect most dogs and cats, and the problems they cause can range from irritating to life-threatening.
