It sounds like you are feeling sad a lot of times, and running away from your problems. The therapist is there to listen to you and help you resolve some feelings inside of you that you can not get out. She is trained to help you solve your problems. Be honest with her and open up as much as you can. By LAW she can not tell anyone what you two talk about, unless you are a threat to hurt somebody else or yourself. Again, remember she is there to help you, not hurt you.

What type of therapist are you seeing? sounds like some sort of physical therapist if you are scared of pain. My dad recently had a knee replaced and has been going to therapy. The person is a professional who knows what he is doing and has never hurt my dad, but yes, he does come back sore, its like a really good workout of a body part that has been 'fixed' so it will hurt. The advice my dad got before he started going to therapy was to take his pain meds an hour before therapy to make it a little more bearable. Don't be scared, if there is something you feel you are not ready to do, just let the therapist know. We each know our own boundries and a good therapist will respect this.
If you are going to a psych therapist, trust me, you will feel a lot better. Therapists are there to help you and because they are not emotionally involved w/ you (they are not your relatives, friends, etc) they can give you the objectivity you need. Most of the time, they'll just listen, input a few words and help you come to your own solutions. Its a wonderful way to 'unload' what you are feeling w/o feeling like the person is going to judge you, put you down or not understand you. Good luck!

It can be a little scare to see a therapist. Think of it this way, Therapist are just emotional helpers. When we find we need a little help that is what they can do. Help us sort out what we maybe feeling. It just like going to a Doc. They are emotional Doctors. They help us in that department. We can all use some help once in a wile. They have very high standards. Therapist can not discuss what you say with any one. Not your Mon, dad, love, or husband.
I hope this helps.

Since a therapist is usually unable to, unlike a psychologist, prescribe any medications they really are a glorified version of your best friend w/ one exception. You can open up and talk to them to get things out that are eating at you but unlike your best friend the therapist is guaranteed to keep your 'secrets' from leaking to others. That is of course unless they truly believe you are going to harm some one else and then they may be required to involve the authorities.

The therapist does not hurt you. There's no needles. No painful tests. He/she will ask you some questions and ask you to talk about your problems and why you came in.
You may feel a little uncomfortable, a little sad. You will be talking about stuff in depth that you don't usually talk about. Its always difficult, but worth it in the long run.
If they are just a therapist and not a psychiatrist, they can't even prescribe medication.

All a therapist does is listen to your problems and they help you try to make sense of them.

They aren't going to hurt you. Therapists help you with you discomforts and problems. And they might subscribe medicine if approved.
