sometimes I experience a small dot of bright light, this grows gradually into a blurred ring in the centre of my vision. The ring slowly gets bigger and bigger until it finally disappears. The outside and inside of the ring is not blurred. This lasts about 20 minutes. Sometimes these happen a lot and then I go for a year maybe without, any ideas what it is is and what causes it?

I get a similar thing. The ring of light takes the form of a curved ziz-zag and slowly gets bigger until it disappears. The optician told me it was migraine.
This sounds like the aura experienced by many migraine sufferers but some people experience the aura without the headache.

I too have a hard time driving at night and I'm seeing eye doctors because my vision is less then good. You might be suffering from a condition called Night Blindness. I have it. Google Night Blindness, Impaired Vision, corneal edema. And most important: SEE A DOCTOR! Don't mess around with your vision.

I had this happen a month ago, and after blood tests, and a cat scan they found nothing. As soon as it happened, I took a couple aspirins, and it went away in about a half hr. I did have high blood pressure when I went, but I think it was due to the fact I didnt know what was going on with my eye. It went back to normal soon. I also get migraines, and that happens, just before a bad one

Have you seen a gp about it?

Migranes can come with various kinds of adverse effects on your vision, and can be caused by certain foods, lack of sleep, and a few other factors.

It may also be brought on by a viral infection of cereberal tissue surrounding the brain, I think.

Or it might be something else entirely.

Get it checked out though, seriously.

i am a alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse, I used to suffer with this, this then led to pressure building up behind the eye eventualy it was a cataract. It may be migraine but it's worth a visit to see an optician
