You can become more spiritual by doing good work and worshipping the One and Only God and not taking any partenrs with Him as He is not a man and no one has created even a cell let alone the entire universe, No one is feeding anyone except the God alone. The good works increases the sprit and good sprit increses the good works so it is mutually strengthening. Islam which has been the religion from time began. Islam is a religion of moderation and balance but media portrays it as extremist! It is rather confusing. Islam strikes a beautiful balance between sprit, mind and body on one hand and between self, family and society on the other hand. As opposed to several other religions Muslims are suppose to pray (Salah) five times a day and not once a week. The fundmentals of Islam include the following: 1) Believe in the One and Only God 2) Do not take partners with the God 3) Be honest and fair to the core 4) Be very courteous and helpful to your parents, relatives, family, neighbors, all human beings, animals, plants and environment 5) Always be just, do not give flase witness even if it hurts you and your family 6) Don't be afraid of anyone except the God 7) Have full onfidence in the God 8) Acquire useful knowledge 9) Don't kill any innocent person 10) free the slaves 11) Do not indulge in narcotics and gambling 12) Avoid vulgarity in open or hidden 13) Spend in the way of the God e.g. feed hungry and help poor 14) Cooperate in good and do not in bad! 15) Be kind and forgiving 16) Do not insult people on their face and do not back bite 17) Fulfill all commitments 18) Fear the God aloen and know that all your sayings and actions are perfectly recorded which will be reproduced on the day of Judgement.
For more details please read Quran. Let me tell you that because of these teachings slavery, interest, alcholism and numeorus other evils were totally rooted out from Muslim society and soon they became the founders of all modern education, hospitals, universities and sciences

I'd recommend that you be careful about that word "spiritual". Many forms of spiritualism are dangerous and forbidden by God.

Absolutely anyone can come closer to God. Here's my recommendation....

Get a King James version of the Bible. You can get one for < $5.00 at Walmart. Either start reading at the Book of Mathew or go to the Our Daily Bread web page...
http://www.rbc.org/odb/odb.shtml
... and read their recommended reading.

Next, find a good, bible preaching, Christian Church in your area. The Denomonation doesn't matter, as long as they teach from the bible. Look for Baptist or Independent. Avoid Catholic, Jehovah's Witness, Mormon or any church that defies biblical teaching (such as those that condone homosexuality, etc).

Then just go and sit in the back for a few weeks. You won't be asked to contribute anything til you're ready.

This is where God wants you and he will communicate with you through his Holy Spirit. Give it time.

I want to advice you to avoid false religions, but if you don't know God, then you can't easily discern between the truth and lies. That's why you have to spend some quiet time in the word and around other believers who can help you to understand.

I won't beat around the bush about false religions.... Cabalah, Islam, B'hai (or however you spell it), Budhism, etc. These are all false religions designed by satan to lead people astray. Avoid them.

I pray that you do find the truth.

Living as a spiritual person doesn’t mean letting go of the thoughts and feelings that fill our lives every day. There’s no need to purge happiness, love, fear, desire, exhilaration, or even anger in order to follow a truly spiritual path. In fact, the opposite is true, and our emotions can be enormously helpful in connecting to the Light.

We simply need to ask one very basic question: Are we in control of our emotions, or are our emotions in control of us?

Our emotions are connected to specific frequencies, or emanations, through which the Light of the Creator radiates from the Upper Worlds. Each of these emanations has a name and a precise purpose. They are like portals through which energy flows between the physical and the spiritual dimensions. How we feel and, more importantly, the intention and motivation underlying our feelings affect the rate and quality of the flow.

Anyone can be spiritual. It is about being touch with the self and being aware of a higher conciousness within yourself. It does not have to revolve around religion, although some find it there. It is more about shutting out the material trappings of the world and going back to basics. Not asking so many questions - just accepting yourself.

I am a Cherokee Shaman and I will tell you right now that spirituality has absolutely nothing to do with God, Mohamed, or any organized religion but it has EVERYTHING to do with your own experiances and humanity.
The answers to all the spiritual questions you have ever asked or will ever ask are inside of you. Instead of asking these questions to others, you should first ponder them yourself and be completely honest in your answers.
You can lie to your parents, children and teachers, you can even lie to your God, but you should always be honest to yourself, this is the only path to true enlightment.

The spiritual side of a person is so important. Greet it in the morning, walk with it through the day. Feed it as you would your physical body. A well nourished spirit leads to a well-adjusted person. Its the spiritual side of us that gets us through the hard times, gives us resilience and keeps the fire of desire for life alive.

There's a few pointers in 1Thessalonians chapter 5.
In particular, starting at verse 11...

I like verse 17. Pray without ceasing.
Folks ask, "What do you mean? Isn't that dangerous when you're driving?"

One can be in a mindset of prayer to the Father without one's eyes closed. Can you be upset at another driver when praying? Hardly. Can one be angry at a neighbor when praying? Hardly.

As you read His word verses will, later, come to mind as you're pondering various issues (such as right here). That's Him speaking through His word.

During a huge lightning storm, go outside and stand in it until you get so weak from fear that you fall over and crawl inside. Spirituality is nothing more than the capacity to appreciate and respect the power that exists outside you, whatever it may be.

First, pray to God for forgiveness of your sin and turn away from it. Accept Jesus' sacrifice on your behalf as payment for your sin. Accept Him as your lord and saviour. Do this without looking for proof, simply believe sincerely, like a little child.

Read the Book of John of the Bible (the one after Luke).

Find a Bible-believing church and attend regularly.

Try to follow Jesus' examples of how to live a righteous life. Learn from Him. Pray regularly, especially at night and first thing in the morning.

God bless!

The Scripture says, "Be instant in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, reproach above all longsuffering." In other words, it means to be constant in our worship, prayer and supplication unto Him regardless of our troubles and trials. It lets Him know we're faithful and are willing to endure. He promised that He'd never let more come upon us than we could bear, so when things get bad, all we have to do is "Lift up your heads, redemption draweth nigh" remembering that "The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." If you want to know more about what it takes to be more spiritual, study the trials of Job. That man suffered more than any of us could ever dream of, yet he kept himself proper in God's eyes by saying, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord."
