Yesterday I was so sick of my long hair I decided to get it cut. I went to a pretty reputable salon and paid $40 for the cut. I showed her a picture and everything. Well she put WAY too many layers in it. At the time I was pleased just to have the hair gone, so I told her everything was okay. Well when I got home I started really looking at it and I hate it....what should I do. No hairdresser seems to cut my hair right. It seems like when I tell them how I want it, they act like I am trying to tell them how to do their job. Did this ever happen to you>?

When you go to a salon you should always tell the hairdresser to listen up this is how you want your hair. Always tell them you would have to little taken off then to much because you can always take more off if needed. If you take a picture in to them and tell them this is how I want it, that is how they are going to do it. You may not realize how many layers this cut had in it, but they usually know how the cuts are done and that is how they do it.. Next time maybe ask more questions about how the cut is done, then you can guide them from there. Otherwise, you are going to have to deal with your hair for now, put it up in a pony tail or something. Pony tails are in.

In all fairness to the stylist, your hair is probably different than the lady in the picture. If you want your hair to look like somebody else's and that somebody else has very naturally thick or full hair, and yours isn't, then she might have made for layers to compensate, to try and make your hair look like the picture. Do you get what I'm saying? I just got my hair cut and I brought in a picture, but while looking for this picture of hair I wanted I had to consider that my hair is somewhat course and thick and I couldn't make a stylist give me a haircut that demanded sleek soft hair. If I did that I would no doubt be unhappy with the results. So, think of that and just be happy with your cut. It could be worse. I bet it looks fine.

OMG YES!! It happened to me exactly one month ago today. I'm still b*tching about it. My hair was almost waist length, and she cut it SIX INCHES SHORTER than what I asked for. I asked for a shoulder length cut with long layers, long enough to be put up. (I even brought a picture. It's the author photo on "Everyone Worth Knowing" by Lauren Weisberger) Well, who knew my shoulders were ABOVE MY COLLARBONE???? Not to mention - the longest part of my hair is four inches long and all it does is flop in my face. Oh, and it's such a joy to have water dripping down my back an hour every time I wash my hair because it's not long enough to wring out the water nor wrap completely in a towel, that I'm thinking of doing it four or five times a day.
Can you tell I hate it? I've cried every single day since. I've shopped for a wig but I can't find any that aren't cheesy. I wouldn't be nearly as p*ssed off if she had listened to me and given me the cut I asked for... It took me a long time to trust someone to cut my hair, and I got burned. I won't make that mistake again. Anyone who cuts my hair from now on will be cursing this woman because if it's even 1/4 inch shorter than I ask for, I WILL freak out!

Oh, and does everyone else treat you like you're wrong for hating your haircut? They do to me.

Unfortunately I have. It was cut so short there was nothing I could do to fix it. So I invested in some hats and it was quite a while before I trusted anyone to cut my hair again.

Now I have a great hairdresser. I tell her that I don't have a lot of time to fuss with it so I need something that looks good w/o a lot of time styling it and let her know how short/long I would like it. I found if I tell them a little about my lifestyle ie widow with two young handicapped children they are better able to give me a style that I can live with.

The same thing happens with my wife, she says they always cut more than she asked them to, and she becomes almost depressed, but I always tell her that she looks ok. Well the only choice is to wait till it grows back to the length you prefer. Next time don't take pictures with you just ask them to cut a bit and try other salons, keep trying till you find the one that does it the way you like. Sorry about you hair.

Do you know the difference between a good hair cut and a bad hair cut? ...........................
About 2 weeks. Give it a little time to see if you can work with it. If you still hate it after a couple of weeks, you can try a totally different cut. There really isn't much more you can do with a bad hair cut.

It's only hair, it WILL grow back! And nobody ever EVER can duplicate the hairstyle "in the picture"---remember, that photo is the result of 4 hours of hairspray, lighting, photographic perfection, etc.
Just chill, it'll be fine.
