Math is how we tell each other how many things we have or might have someday in the future. It's a way to predict the future or retell the past. Math is precise; it never lies.

People spend their whole lives learning math. There are new areas of math that nobody even knows about yet. Computers can do math very fast, but people have to tell the computer what to do first. Young people will need to know more about math much, much more than their parents or grandparents ever did.

math is a language involving numbers, letters, and symbols. Most math equations have an answer, if it is logical. Math is a really hard subject, but the history of math is interesting. Did you know that pi was invented by a Greek mathematician? I know all this and I am only 12, so the other dude who answered first, were you asleep the whole time in calculus?

math: [n] a science (or group of related sciences) dealing with the logic of quantity and shape and arrangement.

That is the dictionary version. here is my comment on that:
Math is the symbolic system we use to describe the universe. We discovered math slowly over thousands of years through trial and error. We found out that from simple observation that numbers as symbols could be used to track and compute real items that we want to trade for or buy. Even money is symbolic math and the way it interacts is pure math. Math was found to be able to record on paper the processes of natural phenomena like light, like the behavior or water as it flows in a channel or in a pipe.

Math is simply a symbolic language that reflects how everything works. I like to think that math is God's language. When God created the universe, he did so by imagining the mathematical relationship of all things...he is the ultimate mathematician.
