I'm thinking Alpine Type R but I would like to here some other suggestions. I'm wanting a hard hitting sub with decent SQ. Will be powering it with a 1000 watt amp.

I would have to say although not my favorite woofer the Alpine type R is a very good woofer and very tough to beat for the money. They come in 2 different models a dual 2 ohm - SWR1222D and a dual 4 ohm model - SWR1242D. Now these subs in the right enclosure will handle 500watt RMS. I would recommend a sealed enclosure somewhere between 1.5 - 1.7cubic feet per side. The larger (1.7) will allow those subs to play satisfyingly low. The only thing you need to do is figure out what impedance your amp will give you the most amount of power so you can choose the right model of subwoofer.
