There are two possible reasons:
1) There is a layer of fat that needs to be removed by aerobic exercise like jogging for the abs to be seen.
2) You may not have a six-pack. Genetically, some people have different muscle configurations and not the popular six-pack. I have a roommate that is way fit and only has four "ab muscles."

The number of situps you do has almost nothing to do with whether or not you have a 6pack. It is your body fat percentage. Most people get the fully defined 6 pack at around 13-14% body fat, and a 4 pack at around 17-18%. One thing you can do to make your ab muscles bigger is do situps with weights behind your head. But still, it comes down to BF%.
Lose some fat and it will begin to come through. Just be very careful not to lose muscle. Diet properly and don't eat too little (less than 500 calories below your maintenence level). Diet is what will make or break your quest for the 6pack. And count the calories, and research this so you can become swol.
Hope this helps.

The most important thing is not how many you do, but that the ones you are doing are with proper form. Make sure you are concentrating on the ab muscles and not letting other muscles do the work.
The second thing I would do is look at your diet and cut out all refined carbohydrates (cookies, white bread, etc.) No soda, either. This will make a huge difference in the stomach area.

take up more cardio exercise to reduce your body fat, try running or playing tennis. Do some leg raises to contract your muscles from the bottom up. Also those gym balls really do work and really isolate your core muscles along with your stabilising muscles. Also check your form for the situps, keep your back as straight as possible and as you come up really focus on your abs and sqeeze them together, and keep pushing yourself as you feel the burn, as they say no pain no gain! Good luck.

For most people abs are very difficult to make defined.
Its not a matter of how many , but the quality, most people do them too fast, take it slow on the downward move ( 3 or 4 seconds ).

some people just cant get a six pack, its not physically possible
also depends on how u do ur sit ups, many people usse their back while doing then which does u no good at all
try using a bosu ball at the gym there great for ur core muscles and protect urself against back injurys

how long have you been doing them? It can take years to develop abs for women. 160 situps per day will do it. make sure you tighten the stomach at the bottom. try pilates and yoga if that doesn't work but it takes ages.

You are getting old an dlosing definition and you are no longer 'over stressing' the muscle properly.
Look up static contraction training. it may be th eonly thing that will work for you now.

You need to combine your sit ups with cardio exercise and core stability work. Sit ups alone will not give you that perfect ripped stomach.
