If you are in a lefthand (or righthand) lane at a light where it's either illegal or impossible to do otherwise can you still get a ticket for not having your turn signal on?

You are required to signal any turns weather in a turn lane or not.

no - not if it's a left/right turn lane ONLY (and clearly marked in that way)

it's more common courtesy that people signal to ensure there's no confussion with other road users

In my state of Idaho, it is the law to have your turn signal on no matter what. Seems silly and is rarely adhered to and even more rarely enforced, but is is the law.

I believe so, but it would take a sadistic cop to note that and ticket you for it. This is one that a judge would likely throw out, or at a minimum suspend sentence on.

Yes. You are still required to indicate which way you plan on going. It seems silly however it is the law

but its best to have the signal on, it makes it clearer for the rest of the traffic

the signal is there for a reason use it
