You are going to get answers all over the board on this one. My suggestion, if you just want to loose some excess weight, is to do more cardio exercises. This would include running, stairs, biking, jumping rope and doing those cardio routines with fitness trainers on TV. I would try to work in some sort of small weight routine as well every other day or 2 days a week. I would cardio 3 times a week. With this cardio routine you must watch your diet. Depending on your size and weight, watch your calorie intake. You can do one of those fad diets, which only work short term and provide bad long term health effects, or just eat what you know you should eat in the first place. Eat lean meats like turkey and chicken. Get your full compliment of vegetables and stay away from the desserts. Now that doesn't mean you can't cheat here and there, but I wouldn't cheat more than once a week. This will be a great step towards your goal. The last thing is you can't tell your body where to loose the fat from. You may do my recommended routine and the belly fat may come off slowly or quickly. Every human body reacts differently. Eventually it will be lost with dedication from you. Hope this helps.

I am doing a combination of weight training, diet, and cardio to help get rid of belly fat. The best exercise I can suggest is to lay flat on the floor, point your toes, and then try to raise up your legs only into the air, and try to hold them up for a few seconds. It is really hard at first but then it gets easier.

I agree with the other responders too, that aerobics are also helpful. (crunches, etc. can help tighten up the particular area, though, which can give faster results).

Oh, and one more thing, try going for a fast walk, and while you walk, hold in your stomach muscles really tight for as long as you can. Then rest a few seconds, and do it again.

So far, this has worked for me. Good luck!!!

The best thing you can do is aerobic exercise. You can tone the muscle all you want by doing weight lifting, but unless you burn off the fat, which can be be done by jogging, you'll never see the muscle. . .

Walking or running will burn calories which will get rid of fat.
Then you can do some crunch sets to strengthen and tone your abs.
