It depends on the pre-school. Some pre-schools will hire you based on experience and abilities. However, some pre-schools will want you to be certified. In that case you need to go to school and major in early childhood education. If you do not want to get your Bachelor's Degree, many schools offer a quicker Associates Degree. On the other hand, you might want to consider just getting a dual degree and becoming certified to teach elementary as well that way you will have better job options.

It depends on which state you want to be a pre-school teacher in. In CA. an AA is required in early childhood education. Yet, if you are in area that needs a teacher and nobody is qualified a site will hire you as long as you have like 12 E.C.E (early child education) units and are in school to get your A.A. You need to check with your state. I also recommend that you volunteer at a site to see if that is what you want to do. Most pre-school teachers don't make very much money.

You need to get your bachelors degree in Education with a certification in early childhood education which in most states is birth through 2nd grade. I teach in NY which requires a Masters.
