Either he bites me when I'm petting him even when I'm completely paying attention to him, or he attacks me and tries to eat my legs. He's sweet the rest of time, always purring and begging me to give him attention. It doesn't seem playful. It seems like he has a bit of jungle cat in him.

Alright, he loves catnip, he has plenty of toys, and I play with him a lot. Maybe he's just trying to play like I'm a cat too. I "wrestle" with him with him does that too so I'm not trying to really stop it. I can't tell if he thinks I'm "mom" or best friend. And I won't bite him. Cat hair is so hard to get off your tongue.

Cats, like people, have their own personalities. Maybe he's just moody. I have a 14 year old female cat that has acted that way her entire life....one minute she's sweet and the next she's kicking my other cat's butt or she's after me. Maybe as a punishment you could try squirting him with a spray bottle when he bites you. This may not totally stop his bad manners but it may cause him to do it less.

My cat sometimes does this. He may not want attention all the time. If he approaches you and starts rubbing up against you and purring, he's in the mood for attention. Do you have any toys for him? If not, you've volunteered yourself as his "prey". All cats have a bit of their larger wild cousins in them; it just depends on their personality to the extent. If you do have toys, and he doesn't play with them on his own, it may help if you interact with him. They're a great boredom buster for both you and him, plus it will help increase the bond with him. Try some catnip as well, though keep in mind not all cats react to catnip, but if he does it's hilarious.

That is the main reason that I don't like cats too well but I think if you get another cat for a play mate, it might help in keeping him from biting you all the time.

Maybe he is trying to be the boss. He sees you as a a threat? Or maybe he just thinks your a cat like him and that's how they play around with each other. As he gets older he should chill out with that....

I had a cat once that would flip out for no reason but I'm pretty sure she was crazy....
Ahh I miss that cat :)

of course, he's a cat. Cats' instinct is about chasing preys, you know some opportunities to kill something. It says that cats are small lions given to humans. Cat bites, it's natural. better get bitten by a cat than getting hurt because of his claws...

Our cat did that when he was a kitten, but he outgrew it. He was the best tiger cat in the world.
