I mean would there have been wars and invasions just for energy, under the pretext of religion, like what we are doing now?

Yes it would be really scary to see a bunch of ashy knees/elbows all over the place.

Rather than speculate in fantasy, lets do an exercise in reality. Can you imagine how the world is going to be with no petroleum? We have passed peak oil. People are still buying SUV's. All manual labor involves the use of heavy machinery. Everyone seems to be oblivious to the fact that there is no more to be had. Yet, one day in the near future, there will be none to buy no matter how much money you have. Are we looking for alternatives? Not with any sense of immediacy. Instead we are committing genocide in countries that have the little bit left so the oil barons can continue to get rich.
