It depends on how you want to cut them. If you want short, straight across bangs, section off a small triangle section at your forhead; cut straight across. Make sure that you do not cut past your eyebrows or you will cut into the side of your hair. Also do not cut higher than the bridge of your nose. If you want the long angled bang; part your hair in a triangular section; pull the hair straight out from your face and cut a straight line; when it fall it will have sexy layers. You can go past your eyebrows with this cut, it is according to how much bangs you want.

Oh, tush, it is not all that bad. The first time you try it, be prepared for some unevenness, but even professionals started cutting something, and you can bet almost nobody got it straight the first time.

Use a mirror, moisten your hair to straighten it out, and cut very little each time, so that you manage to even it out before you get to the roots. That is, cut a little (like half a centimeter / a fifth of an inch), and make a straight line at that level. If it's not shortened enough, cut a little more, and make a straight line from there. Do keep in mind that hair is longer when it is wet, so when it dries out, it will become shorter than when it was wet (yes, it does). And if you notice some unevenness later, when you have dried out your hair, you wait a day or two (to make sure you didn't imagine it) and even it out.

Depending on how much bang area you want you part the front section of your hair in a triangle. Then if you want you bangs to lay straight do not pick them up just cut them flat against your forehead. If you want them to be full and layered you will need to cut them on a 45 degree angle out and away from your head. If you have toy doll you could practice first by cutting the dolls hair. This is how they teach cosmetology students to cut hair except the doll is a manikin head.

I get my bangs pretty wet, then comb them down and cut them with a sharp pair of scissors, using my eyebrows as a guide (I like to cut mine to just above the eyebrows when they're wet...they dry to a bit shorter than that). Then I blow-dry my bangs, comb them, and double check that they are straight all the way across (snipping any spots that I might have missed the first time).

The good thing about cutting your own bangs is that, even if you mess it up a little, they grow back really fast! :-)

If you do decide to cut your own bangs have very very sharp professional scissors. My suggestions is to have a professional do it. One mistake and you can't put the hair back.

If you're confident you can do it - go for it. I've done my own hair before but I had a very sharp pair of professional scissors and after that one time - I never did it again. Not quite the same.

dont cut your bangs. they will instantly make you look 5 years younger (unless that's what you're shooting for).

they are such a pain to keep up with, and really out of date.

if you're still gonna do it and never done it before, go to a professional for the first time. you can see how they do it and have a guideline for the next time when you do it yourself.

wet hair and clip a little bit longer than what you want since when the hair dries it'll pull up a bit plus you'll have pulled hair down tight to get a straight cut. plus it's just hair it'll grow back and you can blend it in with the rest if you don't like it.
