You could call the doctor's office ahead of time and tell the receptionist that you smoke but you don't want your dad to find out. That way you are sharing the info with your doctor and hopefully the doctor will be discrete.

It depends on the doctor and your age though - if you are young the doctor might feel a responsibilty to tell your dad.

It is possible that your doctor won't find out - depending on how your blood pressure is and if they take your oxygen level with your blood pressure...

That said - consider quitting. It's not fashionable to smoke anymore and it's a habit that gets harder and harder to quit the older you get (I know!)

also, it's important for your doctor to know you smoke for when the doc prescribes medication that might have side effects for smokers (for example, birth control pills run a risk of blood clots for smokers).

There is a breath test, much like the breathaliser they use for alcohol that can test your lung capacity and from there they can deduce whether you smoke. But unless you let them test you, they can't, but if your dad knows that you refused the test then he'll have stronger suspiscion that you do smoke.

There's always be the easier way to spot a smoker - the smell of smoke sticks on to everything, your hair, your clothes, your breath. So it's not like it's something you can hide.

they will only know that you smoke if they test you for it.
Unless they have a good reason to test you, they won't bother.
Nicotene levels in the blood and carbon monoxide levels can be tested, just like any other drug.
I don't think they'll test you at your age, however.
If they ask you, just say no, and leave it at that.

Testing for any substance is an expensive business, and I'm sure your dad won't pay for a complete blood toxicology test.

Just say no, and if they dispute it, you can always say your friends smoke and you must be the victim of passive smoking !

yes doctors can tell if you smoke, from the nicotine levels in your body..... As an ex smoker (smoked for 20 years given up for 4), giving up was the hardest thing I've ever done, and the best thing I have ever done. If I can give you one peice of advice and that is give it up while you are still young enough to enjoy the full benefits and before it has become habbit forming.....

Only if they do a mouth swab or blood test to find out if you smoke, which I don't think they're likely to do - or if you smoke so much that your lung function is badly damaged.

But give it up, it's so horrible, bad for you and makes you smell.

Good question:

Doctors are not stupid... and I have no doubt he/she will be able to get a good idea that you do smoke...

Cigarettes smell... they make your cloths and breath smell:

They affect your sense of taste and smell:

They affect your heart, and lung function etc:

They affect your immune system:

Sooner or latter it will come to light that you are a smoker: as though you may not think they are affecting you, or your health: eventually you will, and so will the doctor!!!

Yes...not so much in the younger years...but as you reach into your late 20's it's much more noticable because you start to look like crap with the yellow pale skin, gross teeth, and not to mention the nasty breath or order you'll be giving off...I feel sorry for you that you smoke....Your going to look like your 70 when your only 40!!

if you smoke regularly they will smell it on your clothes and on your breath. Possibly nicotine on your fingers. Brush your teeth and mouthwash before you go.

Smoking is an experience we should all try, then stop, or at least smoke rarely. (I enjoy a nice Cuban cigar about every two months)
