uh... english, latin, french, german, afrikaans, swahili, japanese, and a bit of mandarin... that's me. what about you?
but i have an iq of 156, so i'm technically a genius... chill out

The Guiness Book of World Records once listed a cardinal at the Vatican who spoke over 100. The 19th century explorer, Sir Richard Burton, spoke over 40. It depends how well you want to master them. The most frequently used 5,000 words will give you an excellent command. The minimum basic vocabulary is between 800 and 1200 words.
Most of the world's population speaks two languages. Many speak three, e.g., Native South Africans need a tribal language, English and Afrikaans.
London Education department found that London's schoolchildren spoke over 150 different languages at home and abandoned the idea of teaching in ethnic languages.
The French Foreign Legion once tried to divide into linguistic divisions but abandoned the idea. Now all recruits must learn French.

I don't think there is a definitive answer to this question. I have personally known 2 people who could speak 5 different languages and their own native tongue. So that would be 6.
I would think that if the person has the intelligence to learn the language and uses it... who knows?
