8 Jun 06 Opinion: Commercial whaling by Japan is set to undermine the outstanding environmental credentials of the Japanese car industry. Tonight's episode of Quantum points out the farce of Japanese "scientific whaling" and the likelihood that Japan will overturn the ban on commercial whaling in a few weeks (there are reports that most Japanese are against whaling). [I wrote this as thousands of Sydneysiders wait for the annual parade of these magniificant creatures along the coastline but my interest in whale conservation was initiated by Carl Sagan in the 1980 TV series and book Cosmos]. PS I have nothing to do with an email circulating about cats and dogs in China that seems to be [falsely] using my email address as the sender.
