Imagine that there is a shepherd, in a time that will later be known as the agricultural revolution, sitting watching his sheep. His daughter comes up to him and asks "Daddy, how was the world made?"

Is he more likey to say

1) Not so long ago, a powerful man who made the heavens and the earth, the trees and the creatures.....

2) All the matter and energy in the universe exploded from a single point billions of years ago and using various basic equations we can see how matter would form into spherical bodies and interact with other bodies billions of kilometers away. The exact cause of this explosion is unknown: some say that at a quantum level there was a probability of the universe existing and therefore happened, some others say that collisions of membranes of energy in 20 dimensional space....

Discuss.

Good talking point. The first scenario is a nice explanation for a child or a simple uneducated person not living in the modern world. The second scenario is obviously more sophisticated and therefore more difficult to grasp. I think these questions reflect the evolution of culture, science and society in our quest to understand our origins. People are not willing to settle for the very childlike description of creation in the Bible.

I choose C. None of the above. If he is any kind of Dad and wants his child to know the truth, he would say, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth". And you can read it from there.

Most children who call their father "daddy" are still rather young, so he would choose #1, because it is more on her level, in addition to the fact that it makes a lot more sense.

It depends upon the level of education that the shepherd received.
